Recovery Room anyone?

Published

I worked in Med/Surg for 4 years, did about a year in the ER and have done float pool (tele, peds, mother/baby) and am presently working in the ICU/MICU. I would love to work in recovery! Anyone work there? Do you like it? I'm thinking of doing PRN right now as I just had a baby 2 months ago and need extra money.

What do you like/dislike about PACU?

Okay, more questions.....Does anyone do 12 hour shifts in the PACU? How often are you on call? Are you alone when you do call?

Heck, with your experience I am certain many PACU's would love to have you , PerDiem or P/T or whatever. I will say though that recovery is quite different from the other units in that our main concern and trouble deals with airway issues and pain control. The pace is fast, you have to be sharp and quickly assess the patient for status changes(ER experience will come in very handy here). I personally love it, but it is scary to some nurses. They don't like the quick turnover or acuity. Good luck!

I am on first call every 6 th Sat and Sun as well as second calll every 6 weeks as well. We are often alone during call but can call our second if we think we need them.
