I recently applied and was wait listed to two different schools for my BSN. Sadly I have realized I cannot put off school any longer so I am considering getting my LVN and then doing the LVN-RN bridge program. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anyone recommend a good community college where I can get this done in Dallas/Fort Worth? I have also read that no one hires LVNs anymore...any truth to this??

Hi, there. I live in the DFW area. I earned my LVN license nearly seven years ago and attained my RN license a little more than two years ago.
Some community colleges that offer LVN-to-RN transition programs in the DFW area include Hill College, Weatherford College, El Centro, Tarrant County College, North Central Texas College, Grayson County College, and a few others. The competition to get admitted into these programs is fierce, and yes, you might need to commute to a far-flung city or town out of your comfort zone.
If your dream is to work at an acute care hospital in the DFW area, it probably will not happen as an LVN. In fact, many new grad RNs are not getting hired at their favorite hospitals due to the tight nursing job market.
However, if you are willing to work at a nursing home, home health agency, private duty, hospice, clinic, group home, psychiatric facility, or other area outside the hospital, you will probably be able to find work after several months of diligent searching. Everybody and their mama enrolled in nursing school when the economy crashed several years ago, so the nursing job market is flooded with too many nurses and too few jobs.
Thanks for the information! What about good places to get my LVN?
