Recomendations for Non-nursing jobs

Published

I am currently in school taking pre-reqs for the Nursing program. I would like to get a position within a hospital but I have no prior medical experience. By doing this I hope to maybe obtain tuition reimbursement assistance and experience.

I have a Bachelor's degree in business already. I am not really sure what types of jobs to look for. Previously I applied for admin positions but I didnt even get any acknowledgement. Any advice or help would be great! Thanks so much

I too was looking for admin positions in the hospitals while finishing my pre-reqs and it is extremely difficult to get in. If you have the time, I would reccomend volunteering at one of the hospitals to get your foot in the door and make it known that you are trying to get a job at the hospital. It might open some doors for you!

Good Luck!

Thanks for you input. I thought about that but the trick is finding the time. There is so much to do.

I totally understand... I had started volunteering at Banner Estrella, however my schedule was too hectic to handle it and had to stop doing it! If only there were more hours in the day, lol.

Specializes in Cardiac.

Have you thought about being a unit clerk?

Don't you have to have experience or some type of training to be a unit clerk? At least when I go on to Banner's website that is always what it requests in the "requirements" field in the job description.

Try applying for Patient registration or unit clerk. This gets you into a hospital and actually allows you to do quite a bit of observation. Having a business degree should pique the interest of a Client services manager.

Everyone would like 'experience', but if you provide a good cover letter explaining your interest in nursing, a nurse manager would probably give you a chance.

Thats a good idea. I must admit though, writing is not my forte

I am in the same boat! I have my BS in business and would like to make a career change into nursing. I seem to be stuck in good ole catch 22- need medical experience to get a job, but cant seem to get my foot in the door. I am going to try volunteering and see where that leads while I finish up my pre-reqs to apply to NS. I have applied to *tons* of jobs that are listed as entry-level, but have not received a single call back. The other thing that I have been considering is to take the EMS class at MCC- I think that would help!?!?
