I graduated in May 2005 as an RN, passed the NCLEX in August and am now looking for a job - with no success. I have been told by the area hospitals that all "new grads" should start in an internship program. Unfortunately, the next programs don't start until January 2006 and I need a job NOW! I have also tried nusring homes, doctor offices, etc. but all want you to have experience and of course, how can you have experience, when no one will give you a job. It's a no-win. My family and I are frustrated and I wonder if anyone has any good advice on how to proceed. Thank you very much.

Where are you at? I can't believe you can't find a job. We have hired 3 or 4 new grads on my unit alone. Are you wanting only certain hours or days? :)

It might not hurt to network a little with people you know already working a unit that you might like to work. Sometimes the personal office will tell you one thing but, as much as i hate to say it, that can all be overstepped by having someone on the unit pulling for you. Keep trying, go to the nurse manager of one of the units you had clinicals at. Try to get an instructor to help you make some contact with one of the units nurse managers you had clinicals with. You just never know.

Have you considered moving? Many places in the Southwest seem to desperately need nurses. My husband is military and I certainly understand that some places are easy to get employment and others are nearly impossible. We moved across the country a few years ago and I received an $11 hr pay raise--Amazing!

I have been working at a temp agency until my job starts next month. Many don't take new grads but I found one that did. They will let me work at a convalescent or prison as a meds nurse (I volunteer already at the women's prison, so that was a good fit for me). I am scheduled to work a flu shot clinic next weekend.
Once I got in with some hospitals they saw how I worked and told me to apply for positions. I already had one though, was just waiting for it to start.
Good luck!

Your school did not provide job placement aid? Or at least have a list of possible employers? I know here, grads are securing jobs months before graduation.
Try going to Monster.com and upload a resume there. Good luck :)

Wow that sounds really odd. You as a new grad RN has a much better chance at a job than I as a new LPN does. Many hospitals have new grad RN programs. No one does for LPN's, at least here in CO. Check your newspaper adds, check hospital websites. Good luck. I graduated in May as an LPN and don't have a job either. They want experience I don't have, but yet they'll hire new grad RN's with no experience.
