3rd time's a charm!

Hello everyone,

A friend of mine told me about this website and when I first visited the site in March, I couldn't believe how supportive everyone was of each other that they had never met before. That is so awesome!

I failed the NCLEX-RN exam twice. I took the Kaplan review course in Jan. of 2007 and it didn't help me with the exam at all. I ended up failing with 95 questions. I ended up losing my job because of it. I had a lot going on within the last year (had a baby and moved into a new house) so I took a year off of work and to study.

This last Jan., I started really studying hard core. I did approximately 3000-4000 questions in the last 3 months. I also studied a lot of content mainly from Saunders. One day a week I did something fun though to let my brain relax and to enjoy myself :coollook: I took my exam for the 3rd time on 4/3/08 and just found out this morning that I passed. What a relief!

I was very close to giving up after failing the second time but my family encouraged me to keep going, so I did. I felt like a failure and that I was never going to pass this exam.

When I was taking my exam last week, I was actually confident in a way that I had passed. I am so glad that I had reviewed all the content that I did because that helped me with the exam a lot. I had 10-15 SATA questions and that made me nervous because I am terrible at those kinds of questions and tons of meds.

My advice to anyone out there who is thinking about giving up, don't because you will pass if you put your whole heart into it. After lots of tears, headaches, fighting with my husband, and prayers, I passed when I never thought I would. It doesn't matter how well you did in nursing school but how well you can answer those questions on the exam, so keep working on those questions along with their rationales. I was an A-B student and I failed twice. I thought that since I took the Kaplan course that I would definitely pass because they guarantee you that you will pass, not the case.

Keep your head held high and be confident in yourself and you too will someday be a nurse. :lol2:

How many Qs did you have and how much time did you spend?

Do you think that Sounders helped you a lot this time? Was it like Sounders?

FA2Z, Saunders helped me with the content, but I didn't feel that their questions were anything like the NCLEX. The test took me 5 hours and I ended on question 186. I spent waaaay too much time with the 1st 100 questions.

ALso, this is just my opinion, but I do feel that the last question does determine in some way whether you passed or failed. I was sure I answered the last question correctly and I passed. The last two times I took it, I was positive that the last question I answered was wrong. I have heard other people say it has nothing to do with whether you pass or fail, but I think it does in some way.

first off, congratulations! :lol2: you are an inspiration to me, for i wear the shoes you have just stepped out of! my third attempt at this is in june, on the 6th, (as i deep breath, realizing i am already holding it!). i graduated in 2002 and failed that summer. i waited 3 years to take it again, and failed another time, after sludging through 260 questions. i can still see myself as if watching from across the room how i felt when i saw my failure again. it has taken until now to believe in me and to tackle this bloody thing. luckily i live in california and i have that option to take it over and over. some states only allow you so many years after you graduate to succeed. anyway, your entry was very encouraging. i am doing my best to refresh...most tests i take from the book i am getting 70% correct, but i am learning quickly it doesn't really matter where those scores are right now. i can't wait to trade in my test retaking shoes for a new pair like yours! again, my sincere congratulations, you are my first hero on allnurses, (i just joined tonight):bowingpur
