"Just" an LPN...

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I had a horrible night with one if my private duty pts. I have been with her for over a year and switched from days to nights(to help out in a bad staffing situation). Any way... Last night she politely informed me that because I'm "just" an LPN I give her substandard care. This pt has 24hr nursing in her home and only one nurse is an RN. So does that mean all if her staff sucks?!

Just wondering if any one else has had this happen because they are "just" an LPN?

She sounds ungrateful......sometimes people who are very ill are very angry and will take it out o the nearest person. I'm sorry she made you feel bad. ((HUGS))

Some people are just that way. Maybe she wasn't being mean, that's just how her brain processes.

I think I would most likely put this in a category of her venting her frustration about something else, or just the diffuse stress of day after day dealing with disabilities. It stings for sure, but if the outburst doesn't sound reasonable as hers really wasn't since you've been there a long time and her other nurses are also LPNs - don't take it personally. I might say something along the lines of "please don't hesitate to be honest with me if there is a problem of some sort because I am truly here to help you". I'm getting better at letting stuff roll off but it's an ongoing process!

I wouldn't take it personally (although I know it's hard not too sometimes) your never "just a LPN" unless you let yourself feel that way. Ditto what PP said she may just be taking her frustration out on you.
