Does any one know anything about OSHA regulations regarding food and drink
in the ER? My supervisor is saying that it is against OSHA regulations to allow family members to eat or drink at the patients bedside. Therefor we can not even allow the patients family member to have a glass of water of coffee while sitting with their patient family member. Anyone know anything?

Hmm, OSHA...
I don't know the answer to your question, but OSHA is for worker protection, not patient (or family member.) Having said that, I would think think that it would be ok for family/pt to drink/eat, but not for staff to have food/drink in tx areas.

Not an OSHA thing...you may want to look at some overzealous infection control person in your hospital!
Or, your mananger may just be looking to keeps spills to a minimum!
But it's definately not OSHA here.
