Questions about NP/CRNA route

Published

I am new to allnurses.com and I have a couple of questions to ask about my probable route to becoming a NP/CRNA. I am 23 years old with a non-nursing degree and determined to join the field of nursing in any way possible. I already know that I need to apply to accelerated MSN programs in order to become a NP and have a BSN with a minimum of 1 year critical care experience to apply to CRNA programs. If I were to go the CRNA way, what would be the best route for me to take? (APN, BSN, MSN)

Thanks in advance

BSN. Most people do not bother with a different MSN unless their GPA's are low.

Thanks morificeko. I have a good GPA so going the BSN route may be my best route if I decide to pursue a career in nurse anesthesia.

A lot of the programs require a BSN or at least a 4 year degree of some sort. There are several I believe that do not require a 4 year degree. Also if you already have the pre-reqs then you might spend the same amount in nursing school between a ADN or BSN program.

All nurse anesthesia programs are either master's or doctoral. You must have a bachelor's degree to be accepted, but for some it does not need to be a BSN. For example if you have a BS in chemistry, then an ADN and nursing experience will qualify you for several programs.

Thank you all for the great information. I know most require 1 year of critical care experience, but you guys think applicants need more than a year?
