Question about teaching medical assistance

Published

Does anyone know the laws for teaching medical assistances personal? I mean if a physcians office manager is not certified in anyway can she teach medical assistances to do procedures if they have no medical experience either? I dont understand how a non certified person can teach a medical billing procedure if they have not been trained and certified to do so. Thanks for your input. :)

I'm not sure that medical billing, is a skill that is limited to licensed or even certified personnel (but I obviously could be wrong on that).

I don't think I understand your concern, is the billing being taught incorrectly? If so, wouldn't it be easier to correct the teaching instead of wondering if she's "allowed" to be teaching?

not a lawyer. Maybe the certification board for medical assistants in your state could answer that question

There is no state certifying board for medical assistants. MAs are nationally certified by passing the CMA exam, administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants... only graduates of a CAAHEP accredited school can sit for the exam.

Any MA who is not an actual CMA may fall anywhere on the spectrum from having graduated from a non-accredited school and therefore unable to sit for the exam all the way to having no formal training whatsoever and being hired because he or she would work cheap.

In most states, medical assistants may do whatever his/her supervising physician delegates to them short of practicing medicine without a license. Some states have laws that put limits on this such as MAs might not be allowed to start IVs or give IV meds, give injections, or shoot x-rays. In many states there are no limits and it's entirely up to the physician and the MA (or CMA).

After working as a CMA for 17+ years, I have seen the good, the bad, and the dangerous in this job! Patients should ask about the skills and training of the person coming at them with a needle, but most of them just trust their doc.

By this, do you mean medical assistant personnel?
