hello. i don't work at virtua but i interviewed with them. they are nice if you like the community setting and not the hustle of the city hospitals. they are union so you have 1% of your check going to dues. as of now they don't offer sign on bonuses to new grads and their pay rate is lower then other s. jersey hospitals, like lourde's. but, i can tell you i had clinical there on a tele unit and it was nice. the patient's were not as critical as i thought they would be. so as a student it was nice. the nurses for the most part were all nice too.

good luck to you. you have plenty of time to decide. you'll have a better idea when you start your clinicals. but, i'm happy to here you are pursuing a career in nursing!!

I work at Virtua Voorhees. It is West Jersey's busiest hospital. As busy as Burlington Memorial. Most of the nurses and techs are nice hardworking people. Somedays are good and you have staff. Somedays are bad and you have to work with no staff (as anywhere) Sometimes 10 pts on tele M/S, but then you 'll have an LPN passing meds (when Rn staff is low). Sometimes 1 tech for 20 patients. There may not be many highly acute/specialty patients as Virtua is not a high level Trauma Center and is not in a university setting. Voorhees proposed specialty is Maternal/Child Health. Marltons' is supposed to be Orthopedics, and Berlin' is Geriatric. It is nice if you dont want to work in Camden or Phila. Which I dont !! BUT Trust me there is plenty of hustle and bustle here, you wont even have time to pee.

Specializes in Cardiac ICU.

i worked in the er in voorhees for 6 weeks. hated it. the staff act like they know everything, and trust me, they don't! most have come right out of diploma school and have never worked anywhere else.

worked in the er in mt holly for almost 2 years. i liked it better there. gisela's the best!!!:p staff have a better attitude there.

i hear rutgers is very disorganized undergrad. i took some grad courses there and felt like the clinical was lacking.
