Question Regarding To Compact States--Declare State of Residence?

Published

I live in New York City and I am trying to obtain a registered nurse license in one of those compact states such as Arizona, Wisconsin, Utah, Virginia, Maryland, Colorado and etc. Is it possible for me to obtain a registered nurse license in one of those compact states if my primary residence is in New York State? Thank you for your time to answer my question!!!!

It is my understanding that you have to be a legal resident of one of the compact states to hold a compact license.

I could be wrong, but that is my understanding. I live in Kentucky, we've been a part of the compact for a little over a year now.

What about Travel Nurses who go from state to state and are licensed wherever they work?

You can be licensed in a compact state regardless of where you live, but the license will be good for that state only, and not have compact privileges.

I too am from NYC and currently working overseas. I am looking to return to work in another state. What I have learned about the compact agreement is that member states will allow you to work on your current state license.

Otherwise, we can work in any state we like if we meet that states license regulations. Then one must follow the licensing board directions to obtain licensure. I believe 'all nurses' offers the web addresses of all state boards.

jolie is correct. i live in new mexico which is part of the compact. my license says "multi-state privilege" which allows me to work in texas, arizona etc with my new mexico license. it is much easier then in the past when i had to pay for 3 different states/licenses. not everyone has multi state privileges. you have to be a resident of the state & apply for the multi state privileges.:D

Thank you for taking your time to reply to my question regarding to compact states license!
