can someone help me regarding my case..so i took up nclex rn, while waiting for my result i decided to use the last name of my husband we just got married year ago...my question is can i mail my change of name letter to the bon with the supporting documents or just wait for the result first??? :welcome:

I'd do it now, because when you pass th NCLEX they will have already started the process of issuing the licenses. Either that or wait until you get your license in the mail, then inform them of the name change. Either way, make sure that the name you sign your charts with is the same as the one on the license. If your license is issued to Mary Smith and you are now Mary Jones, you can sign Mary Smith-Jones, RN until the BON changes it on your license.

As soon as you see it online you can request a name change. I printed the form the day it appeared on the BON website that I had passed, and filled it out and sent it in with copy of my marriage license, etc. I put a note on it something like "I'm sorry I can't send in my old license for the new one because I haven't received it at all yet, it's brand new; I just got married the week before I took the NCLEX"

No problem. Both licenses arrived, the one with the maiden name, then the correct one within a couple of weeks. I did have to sign my maiden name for a bit though.

You will need to check with your BON. Personally, I think you should get your license first, then change it. You will have to present legal documents to show that "jones" is now "smith".
