Question regarding when you can charge for a short stay visit?

Published

I am a nurse in an outpatient chemotherapy clinic. A Physician is wanting me to fill out short stay forms when she is not on site and has not seen the patient on this day. Is this legal for me to do?

I would think you would need to have someone in your facility clarify this. I am only familiar with 23 hour observation patients and that paperwork was done between the doc and case management.

Ask the billing office for clarification. Bills are made out with codes for various services and have modifiers for various things. They'll tell you how to make out paperwork for a patient who doesn't see a physician but is just seen routinely for treatment by nursing. And if somehow it's not proper for the physician not to be there, and there has been inappropriate billing in the past ... well, not your problem.
