Question about "diploma" RNs & jobs in CT

Published

We are looking at gateway thanks to a very helpful poster here.

My question is, is it hard to get a job as an RN without your BSN?

How long, if you go back to school does it take to get your ADN or BSN?

We live in wallingford if that matters for payrate. Thanks for all your help!

I am a diploma RN, and while I don't live in CT, I got offered every job I interviewed for and got interviews for almost every application I submitted. And I applied in various states since I was interested in relocating. Many places do not care. At the vast majority of the places I looked, starting pay was even the same. Some would have paid me more than my fellow BSN grads since I worked as a tech during school. As for finishing your BSN - programs vary from 2-6 semesters depending on the school.

Just my personal experience. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for helping me! We want to make sure we make the right choice from the start but its hard when you have no one to ask!

For an entry level position, most hospitals won't care too much.

However, if you are up against a BSN candidate, you may be at a disadvantage. Same holds for promotions.

Ask the school how their program articulates into a ADN/BSN completion program.

here is the website for Gateway's nursing program. It's an AS in Nursing and takes 2 years. I would be in there now if I still lived in CT...
