Question about a patient with a nasogatric tube

Posted

If a patient is on a continous nasogastric tube feeding how do you change the bed? Do you just keep the bed in semi-fowlers position?

It would be much easier to stop the feed for half an hour before you change the linen if the patient can't get up in a chair. It's possible to change linen with the bed in semi-Fowler's but it's more work.

Just turn the suction off, have all of the blankets and things already at the bedside, turn the patient, put the sheets on, turn on the suction.

If the patient ever had equipment that needed to stay on and was very important like many lines, or a monitor, the priority would not be to change the whole bed, maybe just the top sheets.
