im from OLFU... i passed all the exams already and didn't go through wid those review centers... You have to assess yourself, your areas of weaknesses and strenghts, your attitude and study habits. When taking exams, nothing beats your will to pass, exhaust all means to prepare for it. Preparation + Foundation(how well you learn during college) are critical for you to pass those exams.

I got lousy grades when I was in college and I got sidetracked with other things so I did not take the NLE until 3yrs after I graduated. NCLEX I took after another 3 yrs (I got sidetracked again). In both those times, I did not enrol in any review center nor did I subscribe or bought any reviewers. But I did review two books, one in funda and another in MS. The reason I reviewed just 2 books is because I figured Ive got fairly sufficient knowledge in the other areas and these 2 are the only ones I am not good at.

i agree with nanel that nothing beats "your will to pass". the first secret of success is believing in yourself. have faith... i can, i will, i am.
* took my first course at mapua - ranked 8th among the 93 graduating students
* finished my 2nd course (bsn) at olivarez college - got no recognition or whatsoever but had good grades
* study habits - i'm disciplined and organized. i made a timetable which i followed during my self review. i followed suzanne's study guide.

i am an undergrad liberal arts student at the university of hawaii here in honolulu, before becoming an rn. i am a new grad from olivarez college of nursing in paranaque ( october 2005). i think i was considered as " b" average. i was not in the top of my class, nor belong to dean's list. my study habits? when i was in college, i study hard, and made sure that i study because i paid for my tuition from my own pocket at that time. after my classes, i eat, i take a nap, then study, it doesn't matter what time it is, as long as i am well rested i can concentrate and keep most of what i have read. i also have a study buddy, me and my friend questioned each other, and tell each other like how a diseas affects a person, blah, blah..i don't deny myself a study break as well. on my nclexrn review, i was not blessed with luxury of having ample time to study. i had to work 40 hours a week, so i decided to review on my own, at my own time. i remember studying after work, studying before going to bed, and even study on my days off..i did that for six months...i did a lot of practice test on the computer. i realized that the more i do the practice test, the more i get comfortable with the questions.. again, i give myself a break once and a while..what makes the self review interesting, and less tedious, is that i pick different places to study. it could be a library, a coffee shop, the park, or the beach..lastly, it does help talking to people who already passed the exam, to ease out your anxiety:d

Hi, nothing really beats self determination. I am a second courser with BSbiology as my first course. I took the NLE (june2004) at age 40 while 5 months pregnant. Two months after giving birth(viaCS), I took the CGFNS exam. On March of the following year I took the NCLEX exam in Hongkong. Because of my unstable pregnancy and full breast feeding schedules I became so insecure of having no attendance to any review center, so, I made it a point that while on bed rest, I have nothing on hand but books and my laptop for the practice exams. I am an avarage student and finished my nursing course from a so-so institution. If I passed all the exams with just self determination as my only tool, I guess you can also make it.

same here. i came here last year and started working as an interim permit nurse. started my self study here, was not able to sudy while in the philippines, using the saunders comprehensive review book. took me four months to finish reading it. also took me two months to review the cds from the 2nd, 3rd editions. took the nclex-pn two weeks before the ip expires and took the nclex-rn a week after my ip expired. passed both exams.
in other words, being discipline is important when one do self -study especially when one is working at the same time. time is precious to say.

i understand how lots_of_luv feels. when i was preparing for the nclex, i also thought of making a survey, a sort of what she did in this thread. i want to know if being a smart student is a guarantee that you will do well in the nclex. but from the answers in this thread and what i read in the other threads, it does not matter if you were good in the academics. it's all about attitude. to those preparing for the exam, do not doubt that you can make it. just be diligent in your review and things will come as you have prayed for them.
