Question about internal transfers

Hi, I applied for a position, was the most senior to apply, 'interviewed' with the new nurse manager, then accepted over the phone with HR. I told my current mgr, who then called me the next day stating that the new nurse manager wanted to work out a schedule switch with her. So far they havent done this (to my knowledge), that was a few days ago.

I have since been getting alot of feedback from others on this new unit, and the not-so-nice milieu there. I don't want a part of that. I would rather stay where I am.

Can I rescind my acceptance? I didn't sign anything....(??) My mgr is unfortunately gone this week.

One thing in my favor is that my current unit is 'unpopular' as its so understaffed and busy...and has high turnover..HELP! I don't want to go!

Why did you want to transfer in the first place? Also ... who is telling you about the unit's bad reputation?

Why did you apply for a transfer in the first place?

Who is telling you that this unit is bad? Nurses working on it? Or nurses who want to work on it so are trying to get you to give up the position so they can get it?

I'd be cautious about reneging - next time you apply for a transfer the manager might say "Well, last time she backed out, why should I hire you this time?"

Your current unit is understaffed. You planned on a transfer, interviewed, accepted a new position and now you want to stay on the 'unpopular' understaffed unit.

Take the new position. You already accepted it.

Does your contract have an "escape" clause. Our contracts gives us up to 12 weeks to decide if the new unit is a good match. If we decide it's not the right spot we can return to our old jobs.

I'd say go for the new position, could be sour grapes, kinda like "ewwwww your dating him?!" was used in highschool.
