Question about home health

Published

I just graduated two weeks ago and I was offered a home health position. I am not happy with doing home health, but I will give it a go, since there's not much employment around here. I really wanted to work in a hospital. I talked to the recruiter who assured me that if I wanted to move to a hospital position it wouldn't be a problem because their home health area is considered part of the hospital. I looked it up on their web site and their home health is hospital affiliated. Does anyone know if it will be difficult to move into a hospital position from home health?

Congratulations on getting a job so quickly.

In my organization, we frequently have nurses moving back and forth between HH & acute care. It's no biggie. However, I would caution you - when you do make the move into acute care, you should anticipate being treated as a "new grad" because you won't have any inpatient experience. As a matter of fact, you should insist on it.

If the home health agency you are going with is one of those that are affiliated with a hospital, your foot is in the door for a job with that hospital. Did you apply for the job at the HR of the hospital? That would be a dead giveaway that the agency is part of the hospital.
