Question about the Fingerprinting Process in New Jersey

Published

Hi everyone! I just graduated with my BSN and I am not applying for my nursing license. I was reading on the NJ BON website. I saw that there is a 200 dollar charge for the board of nursing application, another 200 dollar charge for registering for pearson, and a $25.30 charge for a background check. It also says something about Morphotrak for fingerprinting and I was wondering if that fee accompanies my application or if I can wait for my ATT letter and than send in the fingerprinting fee.

Background check is only if you have already been fingerprinted for a DCA license whether CHHA, LPN, physical therapist. If you were fingerprinted for another state agency like Dept of Health for CNA or department of education for a substitute or teaching credential you need to be fingerprinted again. The fingerprint + background check fee is around $70 and is paid directly to MorphoTrak. You may get the fingerprint application before your ATT which you then register and pay online. if you have been fingerprinted for a DCA license/certification then the $25.30 needs to be sent along with your application to the BoN.

You need to submit your application with $200 fee to the BoN (which I understand may be online now, mine was paper application only that had to be scanned and manually entered to the system and could take up to 4 weeks from the date the BoN received your application). Since I had to pace my payments I sent in my application to the BoN, two weeks later registered and paid at Pearson Vue. I actually received my fingerprint/background check letter the day before I got my ATT via email.. I was able to schedule my NCLEX within 3 days due to let minute openings. But had to wait 2 weeks for a fingerprint appointment (most recently it was a 3 1/2 week wait when I had to go to Morpho to b fingerprinted for another volunteer agency. So wait times for appointments can vary greatly, walk ins are discouraged as the one time I went the walking were waiting over 4 hours since all the appointments showed up on time). My total processing time was about 6 weeks from application to license issue.
