For all fellow Excelsior students, please tell me if you bought recommended books or if you used study guides. I have to take A&P, Micro and 8 nursing classes. I doing my gen ed and 2 nursing classes before enrolling at Excelsior. But I am trying to figure out how everyone studied and what is the best route.
I am doing A&P first because I figured it would be easier (hoping I am not wrong). I have taken A&P 1 at local college and A&P at tech school so i am hoping a lot will just be review. I am studying the A&P book I have at home and then I ordered StudyGuide101. I have content guide off website. Will this be enough? Pls give me advice.
I am a single mom trying to finish this as quick and cheap as possible. So any helpful hints on how to do that would be great. I will be applying for loans once I get into program.
Thanks

I would suggest straighter line for the a&p if you find the test information to be too much it would be about 180 plus the cost of a book if you do it without a lab. Then for the exams Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX review. The 4th edition with the cd works great for me. You can't use federal loans for the Nursing program last I checked though they have scholarships. Others have found study group 101 helpful but I found them not to be worth it. I did use the suggested med surg book. I took my general eds at a community college so I could use federal financial aid to help pay for it. Also so that I could ensure maximum transferability for Bachelors and Masters level education.
For A&P people have done well with the study guide and cliff notes online so you should be able to do it with what you have. ~Hope that helps.~

I too use the Saunders NCLEX and I pretty much agree with MsPC. I am also a single parent and it's reallly hard budgeting for this program. You can try private loans although they won't approve it if you're unemployed. I may have a few other resources that I use and can pass on to you. email me @[email protected]. You can also find a lot of info here, just keep reading posts. This site is a Godsent for me! Goodluck on your journey to RN!

i bought textbooks off ebay but got older editions than the ones EC was using...example A&P 10th edition is what EC said to use, i got the 6th edition...my fundamentals book was only $4.99 with shipping =) I too didnt' care for SG101 i prefer my own note taking method rather than reading someone elses notes. I also paid a monthly fee for an online audio/visual program. It was beneficial to me (you can see my signature dates when i took exams) to plow through the exams w/out having to read everything in the textbook. however, i had the extra money per month to pay for it...you just have to find the best way in which you study and stick to the method that helps you learn and retain the info! What works for one person may not work for another! =) good luck and welcome aboard!

I thought Studygroup101 was worth every penny! I don't know what I'd have done without them - I probably saved a fortune on textbooks by using their study guides & notes, but to each his own.... IMHO C
