Hello everyone! :wink2:
I have been a member here at allnurses ever since my 3rd yr at nsg school even though i havent been posting or commenting on stuffs... ^_^ I just graduated from nursing school last april, and passed the nursing board exam last june here in the Philippines...(yipeee!!!)
If youre like me, then you know that even if they posted the results last july, and had our registration last august-sept... we'll get our license in November.... (others even december i think)... it sucks...
as new nurses, we dont even know what were supposed to do while we wait.., we cant enter any training programs or even IV therapy training coz we still dont have our license... hospitals dont accept trainees without license UNLESS u know someone inside or ur filthy rich ^_^... *sigh*
What can we do while we wait for our license?!?! Is it really necessary to attend a lot of seminars? And Is it true that the PRC will not release ur license unless ur already 21?!?! Coz if thats the case, what about the board passers ,like me, who finished nsg school AND passed the nsg board exam at the age of 20?!?! (Ill be turning 21 feb next yr) ^_^
Does anyone there have answers? ^_^ ur comments are welcome... :)

hi janfrn!
about the age thing, 21, that is true for doctors of medicine. however, for nursing. i don't think so. it's not in the phil nursing act of 2002. so i guess whoever you heard this from would have probably taken the medicine board exams.
problem is, everybody needs to see the physical license as proof that you are a registered nurse. prc is sooooo slow..
although its hard, try looking for nursing jobs that will accept any proof of passing you have as a nurse, clinics will usually do this. salary will really be low, but then its a start.
the other thing you'll need is continuous training...bls, acls, iv therapy, ecg, etc etc. they don't usually look for iv therapy if you have had years of experience. attend seminars..
good luck!
Can someone explain to me how the Philippines is able to educate nurses with a four year degree, and medical doctors with the required number of years of education that goes with that, before they reach the age of 21? I can't wrap my mind around that.

i was able to get my license way back 2006 even if im only 20 years old. it was not a problem at all. there are lots of things you can do while waiting for your license. try to volunter at red cross or any charitable institution near at your place or contact your local health office for some program where they will be needing volunter assistance. the problem only comes in if the person is a couch potato. want to do something but no action or move is being done.

From what my parents tell me, the Philippines doesn't have extended years of elementary school (aka middle school/jr. high) like they do in the US. After six years of elementary school, straight to four years of high school. Hope that answers your question!

The time that I took my IVT seminar, most of the nurses there are newly board passers and with no hard license in hand but they allowed them to take the seminar. They just asked for the claim stub i think and they just have to follow up their license once claimed.. hope that helps.

I'm from Iloilo, also a recent board passer. I'm currently applying for volunteer nurse here. They only require certificate of passing and board rating...

hospitals dont accept trainees without license UNLESS u know someone inside or ur filthy rich ^_^... *sigh*Partly, that's happening. But if your in a situation wherein your on the dead end and using your connections will help you, then I'm sure you'll use it. That's part of life....What can we do while we wait for our license?!?! Is it really necessary to attend a lot of seminars? You can do lot's of things while waiting for your license. There are so many seminars offered out there. Learn to recognize opportunities....And Is it true that the PRC will not release ur license unless ur already 21?!?! (Ill be turning 21 feb next yr) ^_^Back in the past, way way back in the past... hahaha... our CI told us that she graduated in Nursing at the age of 18. She's an accelerated student. She was not allowed to take the board exam because of her early age. But now, if you graduate in Nursing at an early age and you have a valid reason for that, just present your documents and I think the PRC will allow you to take the board exam. Hope this helps...

to janfrn: "stripedsock" is right... and usually, college students graduate at the age of 21, but there are some like me, who attended school a year earlier than most kids, that's why im a few months younger than the other graduates... :)
to gorgeous77: thanks! ^_^
to mheyflower: Ive tried asking around hospitals here in quezon city, but they all say the samething... they need to see your License card b4 they let you in their IVT seminar... :) where did u take your IVT seminar? :)
sorry again to the moderators for posting my msg twice... :)
I took mine at some private hospital in Laguna.. I had my license in hand while my friend only had his claim stub that time. A month or so we recieve the IVT license at the same time..

you can just present the green stub bec. it also bears your license number. that's what I did. maybe it depends to the hospital who conducts the iv training.
