Question about ATI, Saunders, and Kaplan...strange thing happening

Published

Ok I'm starting my final semester of my BSN program. I've never done poorly in any classes, no C's even. In the med surg classes where we lose about half the class, I do well. But we take an ATI each semester(peds, ob, psych, medsurg, etc) and I usually get a level 1 or sometimes below 1. Yet some students who failed the lecture badly and didn't know much of anything( they admit they didn't know stuff)...did well on ATI and said it was easy. Others of them said they just guessed and had no eartly clue; but they pulled a level 2 or 3. Here's something to add to my confusion... I've found the 7 Kaplan trainers and took the first just to take it(no studying) and I got a 75. I got a 70 on the 2nd. Also going through the big Saunders book... I'll pick a random chapter and just do the quiz at the end of the chapter. My scores are 80's and up. Now I do have this mindset that I don't like ATI for some reason, but why do I stink up the ATI and do well in lecture, saunders, and kaplan???? Anyone else do poorly on ATI? I hear some say ATI doesn't predict very well, any opinions??

The worst thing is that no matter how well I'm doing in all these other things, no matter how good of a job the nurses I work with(extern) say I do.... ATI is making me feel pretty d*mn dumb, especially when ppl who fail classes......say it's easy.

I felt the same way! I didn't like the ATI tests either..I prefer Kaplan the best..it's hard but I heard it is AWESOME prep for NCLEX..i like Saunder's..but some of their questions seem easy.

Hey, sorry the ATI is giving you a bit of a problem. From reading your post i would say that the first action you might want to consider is really not to care much about or compare yourself to your classmates its just not to your benefit really.....

I also struggled with those ATI's lolol when i was in school, back in 07-08.. It was so disheartening mate, sometimes i would even have the book in front of me and still choose the wrong answers!

The best way to boost your score on those ATI exams is to practice, practice and more practice and im certain your scores will improve on your next assessment.

Also ATI questions and option styles are different from both Saunders and Kaplan ( that youre doing very well in) so in essence you know the info but now you need good test taking stragedies to improve that ATI score...

Try not to get bogged down by the jargon of the ATI simply be patient while reading the question and eliminate incorrect options.... Hope this helps and good luck....

can someone help me with ati predictor test for pn please

I wouldn't worry about how you do on any predictor tests just as long as you can satisfy any school requirements for passing them. People get themselves tied up in predictor tests and scores and such and forget that on any given day they may or may not get a particular question correct. Better to concentrate on concepts and rationales behind questions.

I felt the same way, I only scored in the Level 3 area for a few of those tests, most of them were at 1, but my predictor said I had a 97% chance of passing the NCLEX, took it on Wednesday, computer shut off at 75 questions, and I've been getting the good pop up after the PVT ever since.

So don't get too hung up on ATI test scores, they're really specific and aren't really what the NCLEX-RN is about.

I took Kaplan and thought it was a great prep to see what style of questions were going to be offered on the test and how to decided which answer is best. It really did help... well as far as I know anyway since I don't have my official results yet. :)

Good luck!!
