I am now working for a facility with LOTS of corporate oversight which is different for me. This company tells me to give 'points' for med errors....more for serious ones, less for not so serious ones. I can't believe there are companies that still operate this way. It makes for an atmosphere of oppression and guilt. No one will willingly come forth and say "I screwed up" if they are going to be punished. I'm not sure I can stay working for a company like this....arrggghhh....aren't there any good places left?

CapeCod, I don't think I could stay either, I use errors as teaching tools to improve quality care
Hey CapeCod, how is it going.....?

CCM - It saddens me that you're hitting the wall with such difficult facilities. I always enjoyed following your posts and thinking I'd like to work with you. You seem to have such a good grasp how to effect good employees/systems into providing good care. And then you get smacked down!
So sad that those profit-driven corp systems exist so prevalently in the industry. Trying to find the good ones is like searching for that proverbial 'needle in the haystack' but the haystacks keeps getting bigger and more numerous. I don't see the systems getting any better.
Holdng positive thoughts for you.
Thanks. It is getting to be time for me to get out of the business. Sicker patients, stupider nurses, more regulations, smaller budgets....it's all too much to deal with. The patients are last on the list of what most people worry about. I'm glad I'm nearing the end of my career. I feel sorry for new nurses. LTCs will be filled with really sick people and nurses who have no clue.

I thought it was just in my area. Seems LTC is going downhill everywhere even as "customer service" becomes more important. Happy to work in a hospital now.
