Public Health Nurses with other nursing experiences.

Any former critical care or even acute care nurses that became Public Health Nurses? I'm interested in your role transition, in terms of hours, pay change, and overall opinion about PHN.

I am interested in wellness/health promotion. I'm currently enrolled in a BSN-MSN-NP program. I work full time as an ICU Nurse. I want to eventually be an NP that can really have an impact on the community through family medicine etc.

You can comment or PM me. I'd be interested in being a PHN whilst I finish my degree.

I have brief experience in public health. It didn't quite work out but that was more from the structure of my position. It was a massive drop in pay but better working conditions... no holidays, only worked one weekend the time I was there. I could tell you more about my experience but it's only my experience. Yours would vary significantly based on the position.

Most PH jobs seem to be full time and bankers' hours. It would be difficult to do it and fulfill NP clinical hour requirements. I'm in a NP-MPH program actually. As I'm heading into my clinicals, I'm pretty fortunate to have kept my acute care job. Some weekend hours allow me to be available for the three days a week for clinical/class and still work more than 16 hrs/week. It'd be tough otherwise.

Anyway, food for thought... good luck!
