Hi,
I completed my RN degree through an ADN program. Afterward, I completed an RN-BSN program through a CCNE-accredited school. I understand there is a 90-hour "public health" clinical requirement for a CA PHN certification.
My question is whether my nursing school clinicals would satisfy this requirement. All clinical hours were in a hospital that involved direct patient care. Or would my current RN job (outpatient) fulfill this requirement?
Any information would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you in advance!

Howdy, did you ever get your PHN Cert?
I did! I didn't have to do anything extra. I just applied with my ADN and BSN transcripts and child abuse CEs and got approved!

Under CA Regs: CA PHN certification
Quote The Legislature recognizes that public health nursing is a service of crucial importance for the health, safety, and sanitation of the population in all of California's communities. These services currently include, but are not limited to: ♦ Control and prevention of communicable disease. ♦ Promotion of maternal, child, and adolescent health. ♦ Prevention of abuse and neglect of children, elders, and spouses. ♦ Outreach screening, case management, resource coordination and assessment, and delivery and evaluation of care for individuals, families, and communities

So all nursing education courses and clinical that covers this information would count to the 90 hours of public health clinical requirement.
My BSN Maternal Health nursing including hours in womens health clinic, providing STD and pregnancy prevention education, postpartum maternal and infant home visits while coumunity health had us eval a specific population: chose local fire department evaled for HTN and PTSD providing education along with home visiting nursing --all count.
My BSN from out of state, when I reviewed the Course Catalogue I noticed it only had 50 hours labeled as Community Health (and I had a Public Health class). That being said, I completed well over 100+ but from sites labeled as Hospitals.
Both of these replies give me hope that the CA-BON will accept me as is, and not make me source another random 40 hours! PSA to anyone reading this, there is a fee waiver going on for the PHN right now- more info on the CA-BON website (ALERT in the top) https://www.RN.ca.gov/consumers/fees.shtml
