restraint

  1. I have been trying to keep up with the latest changes in seclusion and restraint in the literature. While there is alot written I have found little in the way of specific guidelines for the PROCESS of applying restraints. Does anyone have a reference that will give me rationale for the position of a psychiatric patient for placement in restraints. My previous belief has been that they should always be prone - to protect from feelings of vulnerability etc. However, recent comments in the literature and elsewhere have got me thinking that supine is now the preferred position. Any opinions/references will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Donna
