I work in a small psychiatric facility and one of my residents is a wonderful, smart, highly functional man, who has terrible drooling from clozaril. He handles it well, but I know he would love to find a cure from this side effect. Normal anticholenergics havent worked. Clozaril is the only antipsychotic that has worked for him, so changing meds is not an option.

Has anyone had a success story around this that is outside of the cogentin/benadryl box????? He started on the oral disintegrating clozaril a few months ago which is supposed to cause less drooling but so far, no luck. Any advice?

Have you tried "Kwells" (Trade) - [Generic - hyoscine hydrobromide]

Not used that often but has been known to bring some success.

Similarly - atropine preparations:

We used to put 3 drops atropine in small cup of water - but check with your pharmacist.

I read about the hyoscine patches...did you find the atropine to work?

how about levsin or parlodel?

I guess it works - but it's like everything psychopharmacology - hit or miss.

I don't know how bad they were before they started it but some say it was improved.

Just wondering about the anticholinergic effects of combining Clozaril with antihistamines, scopolamine, atropine?
