Canadian Psych RN planning to move to Chicago

Hi everyone!

I am a Canadian RN, currently working in Psychiatry and planning to move to Chicago as soon as I get a job offer.

I've already written my NCLEX with Minnesota, now waiting to get the visa screen processed and endorse my license to IL.

SO I guess my question is... How is it being a psych nurse in Chicago and area?

is the job market difficult? I have three years of acute care psych experience and hoping this would be an asset.

I've started applying to a couple of positions at Rush University medical; any nurses working in a psych program at Rush? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks !

Hello Jangdm!

Hope all is well! I wanted to check in with you regarding the NCLEX with Minnesota. Did you take the NCLEX in Canada or in Minnesota?

I wrote my NCLEX with Minnesota for the US licensure (because I wrote the CRNE for my canadian license). But I did not have physically go to minnesota to take the exam, I took it at a pearson vue testing center in Canada (there is an additional fee).

hope this was a helpful response, let me know if you have any questions :)

Thank you!! This is very helpful as I have only done CRNE as well. I want to take the exam in Winnipeg before I come to the states. I have 2 additional questions I hope you don't mind answering (not sure why this site does not let me send PMs):

1) Was these the instructions you followed: RN Licensure by Exam Canadian Program / Minnesota Board of Nursing

2) For the "Submit verification of licensure" (step 2) - did you go in person to have the verification of licensure form filled out by your Canadian Province? or did you have the Canadian Province send the verification directly to the board of Minnesota? This is the only step I am confused on because the application has its own form.
