I am preparing to take the certification exam but I can't afford the prep courses that are suggested. Someone suggested I use the psych studies guides used for NCLEX to prepare for the certification exam. Does anyone know if this would be a good way to prepare for this exam?

Good question, I've been thinking about taking it as well.
Hopefully we can get some good responses. I see you are in adolescent psych. I interviewed for a position that just came open at my current job on the adolescent psych unit. Pretty sure I got it, just waiting for the final word. What state to you work in?
I'm in Oklahoma. Yes, I work with teen boys who are sexual offenders. They mainly have behavioral issues....ODD, sociopath, ADHD, anger, etc so they can be a real pain sometimes lol.
Where are you at and what type of unit are you on?
Does your hospital pay for your certification or offer more money for certified nurses? I still have to find out about how all that works here at my job. The full cost of the exam is pretty expensive.

The ANCC study guide is not expensive, only about $75. Your employer might pay for it (and the exam, if you pass) if you request to use your education dollars for it. You might get an increase in pay after passing the exam too, so think of it as an investment in yourself.
