  1. I'm barely doing my pre reqs but that's the plan. Hopefully get some of these done before next year so I can get into the programs near me. They are going well! Getting good grades, just having a hard time with math but I'll get there! You got calls from the Health Department? Any changes with the protocol? We had to change ours because our Call Center was getting swamped with so many cases, we are only sending them forms for actual positive cases now and not negative.

    Frequent Flyers

I remember when I had my FF. I wasn't playing around with them, I would ask them why. They would sometimes tell me something was going on at home or in the class, so I would send them to the Dean of Students to handle that and I would call parents to let them be aware of the student's visits. By the time I was there in my last year, I cut down my Original number of having 65 students visit me every day my first year to only 10 a day my last year. You can do it OP and don't be afraid to asks questions here, if I didn't do it here, I would've not survived my last job! Good luck!
  3. Heyy.... I'm back again! I miss you guys! I hope things are okay... I'm happy at my job, 6 schools is alright to handle... currently doing classes for Nursing School. Vent time! I'm back from Thanksgiving break... guess what? In my first school of the week, we have 9 POSITIVE CASES! They are calling us and are like "We visited family during the break and now we are positive!" and it's like... duh? So yeah... not the only school sadly. Just waiting for things to go down and close down the schools because... cheese on crackers... what the hell? So today we are just filling out contact tracing forms and sending it to the Ones Above Us and they can deal with this poop show. We also are losing CAs this semester, like new people are just leaving after their first day. We are hoping for new 10 CAs, but nothing yet. Besides that... I been fine, just busy at work and at home with my new puppy. Here's hoping we can survive another 3 weeks. 3 weeks until Christmas Break! How's things in your states?

    Microbiology course online?

I saw some posts from 2009, but I wanted to ask if anyone has had any luck lately with any online courses for microbiology? If so, any links? I'm looking for the class to do my pre-reqs.

    C'Mon Now!

I just a kid in one of my schools tell me that he can see super far and hear super good because of his Batman hat. He did good, so I believe him. But he was zooming around the office and my Nurse was like, oy vey.

    Clinical Assistant

Oh yeah, I am very enjoying that. I am responsible to help the nurse, but she's one in charge. Like I'm invisible and I love it. Something is wrong? Talk to the nurse! Oh, I'm missing a day? It's okay, I'm not the nurse! I know! I was so happy when I got the job@

    That's So Fetch! (Pink Wednesdays)

I had pink screening cards today, so yeah!

    Clinical Assistant

Oh yeah. it's way lower. I do deal with what I usually had last year, but it's easier when I have a partner. They are really kind and fun to be with. We just chat and have fun basically. Today I'm at my boy's school and the nurse is HILARIOUS. She and I have the same sense of humor, so it helps and we just chat.

    Screenings

Maybe a breakfast feast? So they won't be taking it home and can eat it there.

    How do you handle screenings?

Ha... nostalgia for me. If you have a way, ask for resources from your Head Nurse, depending on the area, there's usually programs that do free vision or hearing screenings. I would ask around universities, the department of health or even nurses in your district. When I did my screenings in my old job, I would set it up during PE time, and have 2 volunteer parents, a vision screener and me, using the locker rooms. We would pull 5 at time, and screen one kid and send it to the next room. and just keep doing it until the whole class is done. Talk to your admin team and come up with a plan. Wish you luck!

    Clinical Assistant

Mine is still getting used to me, but he feels embarrassed to see me. I kinda like to mess with him, a bit... Yup! I agree, and it shows a lot. I keep getting compliments on how well I can self manage a clinic without supervision with my experience, so after the first day, they basically just let me loose. The nurses always are super nice and happy to see me because I lift the burden for them a lot. They do either paperwork or manage the clinic, and I do the leftover option. THank you!

    Clinical Assistant

Hey pals and gals, I'm back! Just wanted to say hi and introduce my new job. I am now a Clinical Assistant to a school district where my children go to. I graduated from the district too, so it helps out that I know the schools and such. So far, it's hard work, doing the typical stuff I did in my old job, but this time I'm not by myself. I am currently working with RNs and I love them all. I am in a float position, so each day I go to different schools, which in total I got to 6 schools, all elementary. I got to choose what age group and that's what I choose. I get to visit my boy's school too, so that's fun sometimes. As of right now, I'm also part of a screening team, where all the CAs are separated into teams and put to a bunch of schools for two days out of the week until the end of October, and we just screen. It's gone really well, and fast! I honestly wish I had this in my last job. Here's hoping for the best!

    CMA oversight

What should be limited is assessing. Basic first aid, typical treatments. (i.e, Headaches= laydown, check temp.) To call the parents for any injury and if they come visit. I'm not sure what's the protocol there, but for my last job, I had to call all the parents for every visit, so that may be a thing. Diabetes training, CPR training and Basic First Aid, ,AED, Epipen... etc.

    Documenting in Skyward

Never heard of this in my last job, but what I was told is to be careful what we write because the parents can see what we put. But I can see why this may be a problem, your district should be able to limit what can be seen.
