2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Wow, shots fired--but I understand that you're frustrated and stressed so I'm going to try and let it go. Please don't forget that the flip side to the ratio is the INCOME as well as our facility ratings. I work in L&D at a DSH that is a critical point of care for high-risk births among a very vulnerable population. I love it but the nurses at my institution don't get paid all that well--that's part of what makes my DTI look insane. But it's only irresponsible borrowing if you can't make ends meet and save for your future. I can do both because I have no other debt and I'm in an Income Driven Repayment plan (IDR) through doing public service loan forgiveness--which every nurse at a non-profit with federal loans is eligible for. If anything, the nurse corp program will just help my payments be more inline with all you "responsible" borrowers

2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Alright, I just called as well and got slightly better news. I was told that the program made an error in wording on the initial confirmation of interest (the one where we say we would like to accept the award) so they pulled that "award." She said there'd be a new confirmation of interest email sent out in the next few days. sigh.

So I got the finalist email on 7/18 and I accepted. I was waiting waiting waiting and suddenly I saw just now that my page says "offer recalled." It say my offer has been withdrawn for administrative review. Is anyone else in the same boat? I was pretty sure I qualified Tier 1 all the way, my credit is great, no criminal history, etc. etc., and I can't imagine what they found suddenly after months of having application and weeks of having me as a finalist. I guess I'll call in the morning? It just seems so weird.

    Nursing Boards control of Nurses

Look at you, comin' in here with all your facts and your logic and your calmness.
  8. Sorry, I'm on my phone. I was referring to babynp at the top of pg 6 and the nurse educator who comments after and seems to agree that in their speciality it is very possible to get a new grad job. But listen, I don't know nothing about nursing. And I agree that this site can be crazy negative. But that's what I like about it. Because if it discourages you from your path, then you were never meant to be on that path
  9. I completely respect the different view points on this thread (and to be clear when we spoke to empowering women--it's literally the point of midwifery. We weren't talking about naysayers). However, I feel like "hey keep an open mind, life can happen" is true in every aspect of life and in every career. I've personally built in some cushion to getting to my end goal--because I already know this--and I suspect most people know this, so it can feel patronizing to be told this over and over gain like it's something completely new and unique to nursing. Imagine wanting to be a lawyer and constantly hearing "Be flexible, you might be a court stenographer instead." And the thing is, sometimes it DOES work out the way OP is dreaming, as evidenced by the two posts one page back. I think maybe OP asked the wrong question. Maybe it should have been "why is it so hard to get what you want in nursing." Because it clearly isn't impossible.
  10. I feel the exact same way, Seraphimid. I've been low key stalking this thread. I'm starting nursing school and I know that midwifery is my ultimate goal and it's the ONLY reason I'm in nursing school. I'm in my mid 30s and I'm changing careers specifically to work "with women" in my community, so I'm trying real hard not to roll my eyes at some of the responses. If you're willing to work hard and forsake everyone and everything you've ever known and loved, it's really not that hard to follow your dreams. ......the more you know [shooting star/rainbow]

    Midwifery Experience

I think you should reconsider the doula route. I just got into nursing school and my end goal is midwifery as well. I plan on getting DONA certified so I can volunteer as a doula when I have time. I feel that this will 1) get me in the action with midwives/providers so I can closely observe their process and 2) give me the tools I need to be a more understanding and caring midwife.

    UMSON CNL Spring 2017

Hiiii delate! Thank you for posting and glad your semester is going well. Can you advise what books this semester are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY vs what books you used way less often or barely at all? Basically, I'm trying to decide what books to buy vs what books to rent. Also, have you started any clinicals yet? If so, have you and the rest of your cohort discussed your experiences? Do some sites appear to be better than others?

Thinking of Switching to Nursing from Finance

Finance undergrad here. Worked for a hedge fund for 10 years. Made great money. Hated my life. Hated everything about the job. Hated sitting at a desk. I'm super passionate about social and reproductive justice so I'm switching careers. I was recently accepted into a masters-entry RN program. I plan on pursing my midwifery/whnp afterwards. There's sooooo much you can do in nursing. I'm super excited about my future. The thing about this website is you're going to read through all of these super negative posts about how nursing sucks and it's a thankless job. Honestly, this website is the best for scaring away nurse hopefuls. And if that works on you--if you read all these terrible things about the current state of nursing and they convince you to not pursue it, then nursing was never for you. However, if you wade through all the s**t and still can't think of anything else you'd honestly rather be doing, then THIS is your calling. Good luck.
