  1. Sorry for a silly question. But I am going to start new grad internship program at Lurie Children' hospital in February. Before that, I want to brush up on some nursing skills(even if it is just watching YouTube videos). What type of IV's pump system Lurie Children's hospital uses? Thank you in advance!
  2. Pixie. RN, Thank you for your advice! :)
  3. Offlabel, thank you! I will use your template to bravely write the email to HR.
  4. EllaBella1, thank you for your thoughtful advice!
  5. A few weeks ago, I accepted my first job offer in Behavior health unit in a hospital. The training is supposed to start in the beginning of January. Last week I had an interview in one of the best hospitals in the country for a new grad internship. Next, they sent me the offer. Although I want to explore a psych nursing, I think that it is smarter to accept a second offer (peds surgical transplant) to learn nursing skills. The decision is so tough on me though... How am I supposed to notify HR (behavioral health) that I want to terminate the offer? How to do it more professionally? Calling or emailing, saying the truth or not explaining a real reason? I am a chicken now! I had background check, medicals, etc done, but thankfully they still might have a time to hire somebody until the training starts in January. Thanks in advance!!!

    Psych Unit Job Offer

Hello fellow AllNurses' members! Would you please give your personal opinion?! I am a new grad registered nurse who just got an offer from the Behavioral Health department in one of the hospitals in Chicago. The patients (male adults) usually stay for 5 days- 2 weeks in the unit to overcome crisis etc. I was thinking about psych nursing while in school but unfortunately, I did not have any psych rotations. So, I am not sure what to expect during the job. It fascinates me but since I might have another offer coming I want to be surer that the psych position is what will make me want to go to work. Personally, I am afraid of combative patients since I am not a male but rather a tiny little female who does not know how to de-escalate the patient and does not have any defensive skills. Please, would you share with me what to expect during the job? I absolutely loved the manager and an interviewing charge nurse but I do not want to be afraid at work and not be able to make a difference in a patient's care. Thanks in advance:)

  11. Hello, fellow AllNurses members, Is there anyone who applied to New Grad programs starting time mid-February to either Lurie Children's or Advocate Masonic? I have not heard back from either place yet and trying to understand if others got replies? Thanks a lot for help!!!

How to become a wound care nurse

Hello fellow nurses, I have just graduated with my MSN in nursing(RN). I want to become an NP at some point of the nearest future. But most importantly, I am interested in wound care nursing- either RN or NP path. Please, would you guide me what is the smartest choice to get additional education and licensure for wound care? Also, would it be tangible to avoid medsurg for any time since I do not see myself in a hectic environment of medsurg nursing? Thanks!
  15. Rush and DePaul were the schools! I appreciate your input and your encouragement. I will be applying to UIC too after I will take a prereq. class in RESEARCH METHODS. if you took this class, would you please advise which college you attended for this class? Thank you
