  1. Sorry.. Forgot to mention I am in Southern California.
  2. I am currently working on a HEDIS project for BCBS. Thankful it is a remote from home position. This is only seasonal 😔 am looking for something more permanent. What kind of work are you doing that enables you to relocate and work from home?

    Per diem

I am currently working as a per diem hospice nurse in South OC California. I can be booked for an assignment that usually is with that patient and family until that patient expires. Or I meet the 36 hours 3 day shift. I am not eligible for benefits. I prefer per diem because I can work when I want to. Although I do have to be mindful of census and post my availability. My question is... Per diem is based on my availability. If I am booked and my patient expires anytime during my availability. I have been either pulling my availability and or posting my availability as open with my other hospice job to try and secure shift work. Since the nature of hospice is based on patient need. What are my rights as a per diem employee? Currently St Joseph is not happy with me pulling it and or opening up my availability for shift work. If my patient expires, there is no guarantee there will be another continuous care case for me to work. But yet St Joe wants to keep me on standby "in case" there is another case. They are trying to reprimand me for this..??? Has anyone ever had a similar situation? And how did you handle it?

I do not have an email on where to get trained. As I suggested in my previous post. Check the job boards like indeed.com and career builder for medical records abstractor positions. Set up a search for that title, that way as positions become available, you can research them and apply. I am being trained onsite. My HEDIS assignment started on Monday. Also type HEDIS jobs (in your area) into your search engine browser. Good luck

HEDIS project/assignments are starting now. I start mine on Monday . It is my first time as a medical records review abstractor. They are going to train me . I suggest looking on indeed.com and career builder for medical records abstractor or search HEDIS. Then apply. I had a phone interview that lasted about 45 minutes. My background and skill set is diverse. I have been working as a Home Health Nurse (LVN) for 4 years now. Hospice and Private Duty. I also have Case Management and managerial background. Along with my work in a Clinical Trials Company prior to me attending Nursing School. Good luck  I am hoping it opens doors for more opportunities and enhances my resume 

Private Duty Nursing vs. Agency Nursing

As an LVN is it legal and ethical to work independent from any agencies? I currently work in Home Health because I do value the one on one individualized care for for my patients. I am a Hospice Nurse and I also work some private Duty cases for pediatric cases that have trach, colostomy, gtubes. I do feel under paid and under valued by these agencies. I happen to know that for a SN the agencies charge $60.00 an hour and I only make $21.42 an hour. I would very much like to work as a concierge home health "private nurse" I am currently insured with personal malpractice coverage. I will now look into getting bonded also. How does one become their own boss? I have many clients/patients that do try to hire me outside the agency that I am contracted with. I would like to make the $60.00 an hour... I thought we were not "allowed" to advertise and function as singular entities. Is anyone out there working independently now? No agencies/hospitals? I realize that as a private nurse I would definitely be in constant communication with clients/patients attending physicians to provide and maintain individualized order care. ?? I work mostly southern Orange County Ca. Am abundance of wealthy clients. I just never knew how to go about or consider working independently.. Help me understand... Can I legally and ethically do this without jeopardizing my license? How does one file there taxes? Independent contractor?
