  1. Hate being a CNA

Who said they were one step away from being an RN? If you don't use CNAs at your job, how can you make any judgments on what a CNA does? Where have you had a CNA "overstep" if you don't even use them? I'd be grateful to "miss out" on an attitude like...
  2. book required for CNA 1 course.

If the class is at a community/technical college, you could go to the campus bookstore and ask or just look around. Most are organized by subject and course number.
  3. Skill testing questions

For vital signs and height and weight, we used an actual person. All other skills were performed on a mannequin. There is one examiner to watch 2 people doing skills at the same time. Our test has 5 skills and 70% of steps have to be performed correc...
  4. LTC/Nursing Homes do all the vitals? Do they still exist really?

At my facility both CNAs and nurses will take vitals, but it is mostly the CNA's responsibility. In my class, the instructor really focused on getting accurate vital signs. She said it is one of the most important things we will do. It is also one of...
  5. Question anout cna job

What kind of places are you applying to? I know it is more difficult to get a job in a hospital with no experience in some places. LTC is a little easier, I actually got a job at the first place I applied with no experience and even before I took my ...
  6. CNA starting wage?

I get 8.75 in KY, so would gladly welcome 10. Really, it depends where you are.
  7. Duties of an overnight certified nursing assistant

LOL, we get a whopping $8.75 to start with $1 shift differential and 1 more dollar on the weekends. Basically the most I can make is 10.75.
  8. Wearing Rings

I try not to wear rings to work. They usually get stuck coming in or out of gloves so I just leave them at home. Our instructors told us if it's not a smooth, plain wedding band to take them off. I see a lot of nurses and aides wearing them though, ...
  9. How long was your CNA school?

Mine was a bi-term course at a community college. 8 weeks, 3 days a week for 4 hours. Our state requires 75 of classroom instruction and I think 16 hours of clinicals.
  10. How was your state exam?

I took my test on April 1 and got results around April 29. The wait was awful.
  11. How was your state exam?

I'm in KY and we are tested on 5 out of 25 skills. We have denture care and unconscious mouth care, but nothing specifically for a person with their own teeth. We also have both female and male peri care. :-)
  12. How was your state exam?

I had unconscious mouth care, height/weight, vital signs, male peri care, and hand washing. I just went through my skills book a couple of times. It is a lot easier than it seems...I was convinced I failed but was pleasantly surprised when I got the ...
  13. New CNA here in NYC! I need a job!!

I agree with the person above who said go ahead and apply. I would make sure to bring a resume and cover letter along with the application...and dress nicely! That is what I did and was hired to the first place I applied and at the time I hadn't even...
  14. CNA skills exam - This is driving me crazy!!!

Unfortunately, at the time I didn't realize I was supposed to put gloves on before turning the person. Yikes. I didn't figure just turning them without gloves would be a big deal, considering an entire bed bath can be done without them...but it sure ...
  15. CNA skills exam - This is driving me crazy!!!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I sure hope you are right!!! Still no results. Here it can take up to 30 days to receive them...if I have to wait a month I think I might die!
