I'm working on my case study and am stuck. The case study is over a pt who was admitted into the ICU with diabetic hyperosmolar hyperglycemia. (kinda like DKA- but different) He's now gone into severe fluid overload with third spacing.
I decided on my priority RN DX to be:
Decreased cardiac output related to increased workload of the heart as manifested by obesity, rhales bilaterally in lung field, little urine production and a blood pressure reading of 94/20 at 0800 secondary to ventilator associated pneumonia.
I have all my interventions but the last one (which HAS to be a teaching intervention)
what would you teach a pt who is in a diabetic coma who will not be going home?
Thanks for the help! Rationals would be of great assistance too!
