  1. Moving back to Denver with 1 yr NICU Exp.

How did things work out for you?? This thread is old, and I am curious! I moved to TX to get acute care experience and am looking to move back to NOCO next summer.
  2. BSN not helpful

Bingo. My college advisor told me exactly THIS when I asked why I had to take all of the fluff classes.

  4. Salary

I an discussing salary right now with a place in Portland, OR. They offered me 65K.....Yikes.
  5. I don't think there is much difference between the program in Phoenix, or CO, or CA. You have to have 6 months experience as an LPN, and you have to attend classes. Call and ask an advisor to find out for sure.
  6. The Case Against Med-Surg!

Most hospitals won't hire a new grad. You need a year of M/S experience....or experience period!...these days to do anything, it seems like. I am not a new grad, but I will be a new grad RN in a year. Makes me nervous to think how job prospects will ...
  7. The Case Against Med-Surg!

Very nice! I spent my first year in LTC, that I hated......which turned into 6......and now I switched to peds HHC. I was also told to do a year in med/surg. I don't want to do med/surg. I didn't want to do LTC. I have an interest in peds, but my rea...
  8. Orientation at LTC/Subacute Rehab facility

I got 3 days on the floor with a floor nurse. No such thing as "classroom time" unless, by that you mean the orientation day in with staff development watching videos about the company and filling out paperwork. Took me a month to get a routine down....
  9. And another problem is.......no experience? Then you have NO JOB either!
  10. a 4.0 GPA does not help

Yeah, keeping a 4.0 in the BSN program is hard! I have a 3.71....pharm did me in, LOL!
  11. I agree. I saw 2 RN's I work with in LTC go to the hospital after they went to the hiring manager and said "I want the job, I will work wherever/whenever you need," Both had about 2 years experience in LTC (right after graduating) then landing jobs i...
  12. worried about dissection

I wasn't thrilled with the idea of dissecting ANYTHING. But, your grade may depend on it. Ask the instructor at the beginning of the class, and if there is no option for you find a partner willing to dissect, adn you do labeling and reports, or whate...
  13. a 4.0 GPA does not help

Adriano, I did most of my pre-req's for nursing school at EVCC. I applied there, and to Mission College in Santa Clara and was rejected with my first app, and accepted on my second. A 4.0 is awesome! Do you have your CNA? They didn't require a CNA f...
  14. Unitek College LVN program... good or Bad??

Mission College in Santa Clara has an LVN-RN program. I graduated from Mission's LVN program in 2005, and the LVN-RN there is a new program....might be worth looking into. I don't know about the admission process but Cynthia Harrison was one of my in...
  15. Fired!

I was fired for whistle blowing, and, of course, that is illegal, so I was fired for "performance" and have no disciplinary action in my file stating so. I was never told why, exactly, I was fired, and I have no termination paperwork. Now, no one wi...
  16. rn to bsn programs a scam...

Wow, good for you!! Are you totally stressed by the classes you are taking? Or are they not as bad as you once thought?
  17. rn to bsn programs a scam...

    Yes, very true!
  18. rn to bsn programs a scam...

Well, shoot, I totally got screwed, LOL! My LPN-BSN is 120 credit hours and I transferred in with a little over half of the 120!
  19. Lpn to bsn advice please!

Yep, local schools are EXTREMELY hard to get into. If you have a 4.0 GPA you may not get in. And many are steering away from waitlists (not all) and going to a lottery system.
  20. Take an NCLEX review course. Kaplan has one, I think. It is expensive from what I hear, but it's worth a shot. Take a course in relaxation and use those tecqniques when you sit for the boards next time.
  21. rn to bsn programs a scam...

Oh, Ok I gotcha. I am curious, though, why do they have LPN's with the RN's? Seems like the LPN-BSN and the RN-BSN should be separate. That's weird they'd combine classes like that. I am not taking any of my BSN classes with any RN's. Weird. But when...
  22. rn to bsn programs a scam...

No, the LPN's have their own NCLEX to take. Their are 2 different ones, NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN. Why do your RN classes not count for some of the BSN classes? Some of your gen ed classes have to be taken withing a certain amount of time to count. Ther...
  23. PSA Healthcare

Which did you take? I have an interview with PSA on Wednesday.
  24. I am hoping I can just find a job. We may move back to the Bay Area. Want to go directly into the MSN program at UoP. That's the plan, Stan!
  25. That sounds funny, but, don't let her take away your dream. I have been an LPN for 6 years and made $20/hr in LTC, $25 at my staffing agency. It isn't all about the money. You won't get rich, but you will live comfortably. And, right now, that's all ...
