First week in classes. Mental meltdown.

Hi all. Just an update. I did pass my practicum. Took me two times and we only got three but the important thing is I passed. I am on cloud 9. Very happy. One obstacle out of my way and I'm ready to overcome the others.
  2. Hello, I am currently attending a program to earn my RN degree. I am researching nursing pathways to find out which position is best for me. Correctional Nursing seems really interesting to me but how is the pay? Benefits? It may also be important to mention I live in Missouri.

First week in classes. Mental meltdown.

Thank you for all of your very insightful information Willoita! It was very helpful as was everyone's replies so thank you to everyone. I do have the book Fundamentals of Success and a Rationale book. They are very helpful. 5-7 hours a night is very intense. I was told about 4 hrs a night and thought that was crazy! I definitely need to be studying more. I seem to retain information when I am very interested in it. Anatomy is pretty easy so far but my Fundamentals Class is killing me so far. It is a bunch of Nursing Theories and Paradigms. Not so interesting and very hard to study. I'm most nervous about my practicum that I have to pass in October with at least a 93% or I fail. Luckily, we get 3 tries. So I will definitely need to be studying more. Thanks for all your help!

First week in classes. Mental meltdown.

Hello, I am in the RN program. I worked very hard to get in and was one of the thirty nursing students selected out of 400 applicants. The program I am in is just so overwhelming. I thought that if I could make it in and beat out all the other applicants I could do this. However, on my first day I was told any grade lower than a 78% is flunking and if I receive 3 or more 78% or lower scores I will be dropped from the program. I put my two weeks in at my job to allow me to focus on school solely. I am blessed that I still live at home and don't have to pay rent. I also have to pass a practicum in October with at least a 93% or I fail out. I am so scared I can't do this. Does any one have any tips on how to keep calm and study or any advice on how I can succeed? I want this so bad.

    Trying to get accepted

I'm so nervous I'm not going to get accepted. I applied last year and got turned down. I have raised my GPA tremendously this year to a 3.68 an A in Chemistry, and A in College Algebra, a B in English Comp II and a 93 on my english compass and an 81 in compass algebra. There are over 400 applicants and they only select 60. I applied to both the LPN bridge program and the RN program. I'm so nervous... Last time I hadn't taken Chemistry and had a C in algebra (because i didn't try) but now I have retaken algebra and have an A. Also, last time my gpa was 3.4 and I hadn't taken chemistry yet. I hope this is enough? I'm graduating this year with my associates of arts in psychology degree. If I don't get selected again I guess I'll have to re-evaluate my career goals and go to a university. I just really want to get accepted. I won't hear for another 2 months..
  6. Hello everyone, I just joined this site and I was wondering if anyone out there could shoot me a few ideas over! I am trying to get into the nursing program at my college. One of the requirements to the application is a 5 page handwritten autobiography. I haven't really had that interesting of a life. I mean what are they looking for? What high points should I aim for? Do I talk about why I want to be a nurse or why I would make a good nurse? Or just stick strickly with an autobiography from the time I was a child until now.. which would pretty much go like this... i went to kindergarden at a catholic school and kids were mean and made fun of me cause i was fat. i had an alcoholic father but a mother who was supportive and always there for me.. i contemplated suicide in 5th grade and left catholic school for public.. they weren't nice there either and pushed me down bleachers and called me names... from 7th to 8th grade i lost 120lbs and all the people that were mean suddenly wanted to be my friends... my father is still an alcoholic and ignores me... i tutor kids for an A+ scholarship.. get sick with a renal abcess and can't move around for 2months and gain 50 pounds back.. now i'm in school trying to get into the nursing program and my mom has dementia and my father is still an alcoholic?

    trouble pronoucing some medical words

I bought a taber's medical dictionary for my school and it came with a cd rom.. I think it has the words in it that will pronounce them for you. or go to dictionary.com type in the word and if it comes up there will be a speaker button next to the word. hit that button and listen as it says the word for you.
