I totally agree with "Megg" try to keep a good GPA for the prerequisites (A's if possible) because they are the foundation of Nursing and they want to see how serious and interested in this career through your grades, volunteering could help you somehow, but my case, and at least with Simmons, when I applied I haven't started volunteering back then. One more thing that you should do also, is to write a good essay, something different that they haven't heard before, as per references I guess everyone gets good recommendations. Hope this helps

Actually I got accepted to the 2 years program, what I meant in terms of money is the fact that I am worried that I can't work during all this time, as a result I can't afford taking loans for my expenses for 2 years. Thanks

Thanks Meggzluv for your encouragement! you make my spirit go up :) yes I did knew the reason although my admission counselor herself though I got into the 18 months, I took a chemistry and other courses back in the old country but I did not finish the semester since I came to the US so it shows in my transcript as Failed and what I understood is that Simmons does not accept retake on the prereq for the 18 months. I think I should consider talking to them and explain the reason in me failing the course since it was not my poor performance (I have an excellent GPA for heaven's sake) I did get my Undergra while working so it's not new for me, I guess I am just worried too much and like the other person said the only difference between the progams is 5-6 months. Today I met a friend that I haven't met for so long and she told me that she knows a person who graduated from Simmons recently and she was able to get a job few days ago... and that's making really reconsider because I don't want to get a degree that won't get me anywhere like the one I have already I still have 30 days till I make a final decision, but I try to talk to Simmons meanwhile as you suggested. Thanks again for your support :)

I really want to go to Simmons, but I only wish I got accepted into the accelerated program, I am in the 2 years program now, my deposit is already been sent since I thought I got into the 18months one...my concern is I want to get this degree sooner and without extra expenses since I wouldn't be able to work full time if I was at the 2 years one and that is just way to much for me to afford or have access to such resources for that matter... I know Umass Boston is not great and I am not considering going there I just applied for the sake of it, but now I am leaning to MCPHS in Worcester their program is 16months. I really don't know what to do

Thanks! Yes I will be done with the prereqs this semester, I already got my TCE and I covered all the areas required by Simmons so basically I got all 80 credits. My fear was that I will not be able to work since the classes would be scattered all over the day or something, and if that was the case it is impossible that I can afford spending 2 years without any sort of income. Please do get back to me when you have any updates. Thanks again

I might be attending the 2 years program as well because I was disqualified for the 18 months do you have an idea of how the schedule looks like, would it be possible to work part time meanwhile?

anyone applying to the simmons dix scholars program?

Hi! I am not sure if you are attending the 2 years nursing program at Simmons or not, but I got accepted to it and I have the same questions that you asked in this post, I would really appreciate if you could help me answer them. I originally applied to the 18 months but I was disqualified, now I need to figure out how to manage the expenses for 2 years instead of 1 1/2 year. Thanks

Does that mean you made your decision by attending Simmons? or you going to wait to hear from others, I know Curry's program start in January.. I wasn't going to take one of my pre req either which is General Psy but I made the decision the last minute on the day of add/drop period. I am currently taking the last two pre req and I should be done by May.. which are the only two I still need according to my transcript credit evaluation.

Thanks for the info.. the reason I asked if you got your transfer credit evaluation because it will show you if you fullfiled all the areas required by the school or you need to take, retake or test out of some of them..

The math test or any kind of tests (TEAS-SAT) that you might have learned about does not apply to 18 months program, only to the ones who don't have a bachelor's degree. I don't know the exact start date but I have read that all prerequisites must be complerted prior to July 1, so I guess you are correct :) Did you get your transfer credit evaluation done guys? I hope you don't have to take any elective courses at Simmons..

That's correct the program will starts in July. This is what my letter says:" you are accepted as a degree candidate begining May 2011" but later they say: "be aware that your nursing sequence begins in fall 2011" so it is really confusing, can't wait till tomorrow to speak with someone for clarification:( I am taking General Psychology at Quincy College but it's online, and organic chemistry at Roxbury CC.

Thanks Tamra! the thing is that I am taking the courses right now at Quincy College and I should be done by May. so my plan was that I will be ready to start the program in July, so I am not sure why they put me at the fall entry.. I really need to talk to someone, so did you send in your security deposit yet?

A quik questions for all of you who got accepted, does the letter state you got accepted to fall or summer entry? and did you finish taking the pre requisite before applying? I tried to call the admission this morning but they are still out of office. I am taking 2 courses that I still need at community college, but I guess at Simmons they preasume I will take them with them in the summer and then start the nursing program in the fall. I hope I can clarify this soon and start in the summer.
