Note that they are subject to change every semester. For Fall 2010 Term I students, the Clinicals choices were Orange Park Medical Center, Baptist Nassau, Baptist Downtown, Memorial and St. Vincents.

    FSCJ/FCCJ spring 2011 hopefuls

Hi everyone! Good luck with your applications! Here is a little bit of information on how things worked for us. Registration was a portion of a full-day orientation. We had orientation on Monday, August 16 with classes starting two weeks later on Monday, August 30. The last thing that was done as part of the morning session was to distribute the schedules. On the schedule there were 14 sections, each holding 12 students. Shown on the schedule were the names of the courses, the days/times when they meet, the instructors' names, and the name of the hospital for the Clinicals course. Two of the 14 sections were the Nights/Weekends sections and one section was a restricted section whose purpose was never identified, so the Day students had 11 or so remaining sections from which to choose. Right after the schedules were handed out, we were given a 30-minute lunch break. When we returned, after a few more announcements, the lottery began. So all in all, we had only about an hour to decide which section we would like to join. Of course, if you drew a high number in the lottery, your first, second and third choice was probably not available. We have the following courses: Dosage and I.V. Calculations - self study (start now!) Medical Terminology - self study (start now!) Techniques - 5 hours each week - first 6 weeks of term Clinicals - 6 hours each week - same day as Techniques - second 6 weeks of term Pharmacology - 3 hours each week - hybrid class (meets "online" about 1/4 of the term) Health Assessment - 3 hours each week Concepts - 3 hours each week - hybrid class Here is how your week will work if you are in a "Day" section: Monday - we have at least one exam (and sometimes two exams) every Monday. The exams are always 50 multiple choice questions and are always one hour except for final exams. Final exams are cumulative, 100 multiple choice questions and are allowed two hours. Our exams start at 9:15 am and on days we have two exams, the second exam starts at 10:30 am. Tuesday - Friday - we have two of the 3-hr classes on one day (9-12 and 1-4), the last 3-hr class one day (either 9-12 or 1-4), Techniques on one day (8-1 or 8-1:30 if your class votes to take a lunch break), and one free day. When you move to Clinicals, you will start an hour earlier and go 7-1 or 7-1:30, depending upon if your class has a lunch break. Hope this helps you know what to expect. Good luck everyone!

No - we didn't have any exams the first day. I guess we are teacher's pet class. :) We had a Dosage Calculations review class the very first Monday. Both exams (Dosage Calc #1 and Medical Terminology) are scheduled for next Monday. Can you confirm that the Medical Terminology test was all multiple-choice when you took it?

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I also heard that said at the Review. It is worth 75 points in Nursing Techniques, so 1.5 points per question? (I wonder if that is really the correct number of questions.)

Do we know for certain the format of the Medical Terminology (Medical Language) test? Are all of the questions in multiple-choice format? Or are there some fill-in-the-blank questions? Also, how many questions?

I am having difficulty opening some of the powerpoints. A few are only 4kb in size - wondering if there were upload errors to BB when posted. Anyone else having trouble opening any of them?

Has anyone bought a pocket organizer? I was looking at them online and found out some have a belt loop and others have a belt clip. Our tops have two front pockets. Does this go in the pocket? Does it even matter if it has a loop or a clip? If it does, which one should we get? This one has the belt loop: This one has the belt clip:

Regarding textbooks - I am trying to buy only what is really needed or used/required by the instructors. I think the books below are listed as optional for Term I, so I don't expect any of them to be required by an instructor. (Please correct me if I am wrong!) 1 - Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary - have read several comments on forum that it is not needed/used - can use any medical dictionary or internet. 2 - Dosage Calculations - ditto - not needed if you go through the PowerPoints and practice tests. What about these others? Are you purchasing them? Have you heard from any Term II-IV students who say they use(d) them? 3 - Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests - ? 4 - RN Notes - ? 5 - Davis's Drug Guide - ? (And why is there an "s" after the apostrophe?! :))

I read an interesting question on this thread https://allnurses.com/fl-nursing-programs/fscj-fccj-point-484897-page2.html. Does anyone know the total raw score points on the NAT?

    FSCJ/FCCJ point system/withdrawing

Wilbur, are you referring to the Raw Score (Academic Aptitude + Reading Comprehension + Natural Sciences) before multiplying it by .64 for the points calculation?

Is the iClicker needed for only Term I? Or will it be used in Terms II, III or IV?

I have never used my computer on campus before. Is wireless available everywhere on North Campus like outside and in the classrooms? Or only in certain areas like the library or computer lab?

This may not apply to you, but I'm mentioning it in case it would be helpful. There is another forum on this site called "Nursing Licensure With A Criminal History" You may want to look through the threads or post your same question there: https://allnurses.com/nursing-licensure-criminal/ Good luck to you - I hope that it will all work out for you with a happy ending.

Doesn't the instructor display the PowerPoint? I never had to have my own internet access during the prereqs. The instructors displayed the presentation on the classroom screen. This must be something new?

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer from Days to Nights/Weekends at any time during the program? Possibly between Terms? (I would assume that it would be subject to space available.)
