    New RN Can I travel?

Hi all! I'm a new RN...I have lots of women's health experiences but not as an RN. Would I be able to travel? I really would love to get into travel nursing, but an really unsure of how to go about it or if they would even want me being so "new." Thought? Stephanie

    Got my license today!

I just wanted to come back and tell you all....I GOT MY RN LICENSE TODAY IN THE MAIL!!! A YEAR after I graduated, I finally took my NCLEX (last week) and passed on my first try! If *I* can do it, anyone can! I'm here if anyone needs help! What I did to prepare: I used the AllNurses study guide, read it a few times. I purchased the NCSBN online course review, which was EXTREMELY helpful! I loved it. took LOTS of practice tests! Thanks for all of your help!!!

    PSA: Uncircumsized infants and care

From the AAP's healthychildren.org website: "Most boys will be able to retract their foreskins by the time they are 5 years old, yet others will not be able to until the teen years. As a boy becomes more aware of his body, he will most likely discover how to retract his own foreskin. But foreskin retraction should never be forced. Until the foreskin fully separates, do not try to pull it back. Forcing the foreskin to retract before it is ready can cause severe pain, bleeding, and tears in the skin."

    PSA: Uncircumsized infants and care

FALSE! You do NOT have to retract it back AT ALL...EVER! That is the decision of the owner of the penis! Retracting too early and forcibly is painful and can cause a host of problems! Proper cleaning is washing it like you would a finger, until it NATURALLY retracts. Intact = DON'T RETRACT! Only Clean what is seen!!!! This is from a nurse, a midwife, a mother of a intact boy, ex of an intact man, sister of an intact younger brother. ALL of whom were just fine being left as they were, and NEVER forcibly retracted!

    Ethical Dilemmas in L&D Nursing

That is so sad, and sickening! I live in Massachusetts, where things are pretty liberal as far as birth goes. I am a nursing student, and also a homebirth midwifery student...so I see all perspectives. I've also had a c-section and hope to have an HBAC someday, I'll take a VBAC though! The "system" scares the heck out of me...I mean come on...the proof is in the pudding, VBAC is FAR safer than a RCS, and please, calling CPS, I think calling CPS on someone who chose to VBAC is ABUSE!

    OB "Freebies"

I was born on Christmas, and I also came home in a stocking! I still have it, too!

    Ethical Dilemmas in L&D Nursing

*coming out of lurk-dom* Here's what I don't "get." You say that your state "prohibits HBAC" But Excuse me, isn't (or rather shouldn't) that be the WOMAN'S CHOICE??? I literally do not understand how any doctor, hospital, midwife, state government etc...can tell a woman that she CAN NOT do something with her own body!??? I mean yes, I suppose they can say that they won't care for you or take you on as a patient, but it is still the woman's choice. If a VBAC woman was walking through the doors of a VBAC BANNED hospital at 10 CM, would they then roll her into the OR? NO. It makes me so angry that a woman refusing a c-section would have the child services after her, child services should be taking kids away from people who ACTUALLY abuse them...not someone who was doing the BEST THING FOR HER BABY. And these arrogant doctors who get a COURT ORDER to do a c-section....I'm not sure there is anything that makes me more angry...(except maybe circumcision! LOL) Ok, sorry! LOL I just had to get that out there!

    The Circumcision Discussion

"Originally Posted by VizslaMom How is the foreskin functionally necessary? IMO, if people could easily and reasonably have their tonsils & adenoids, gall bladder, and appendix removed at birth I'd opt for that too... saving potential issues in the longrun." You are a NURSE???? Shouldn't you UNDERSTAND human ANATOMY???? That TERRIFIES me as well!!!!! I think you need to go read up and study the function....the foreskin has MANY functions!

    MCPHS Spring 2009

Thanks! I am in Worcester. I wish that was the case....I know many in my class feel the same way. It is sad. Good luck in whatever you choose!

    The Circumcision Discussion

Um, I'm not sure how you read that...but I'm ANTI-CIRC!!! I AM AGAINST IT, I THINK IT IS MUTILATION! I was responding to the poster who said that she had "facts" that it was safer to BE circ'd!!!!!

    The Circumcision Discussion

Except that isn't a fact!!! If someone practices responsible SAFE sex they are less likely to spread disease circ'd or not! I really can't believe that people still believe all that propaganda BS.

    The Circumcision Discussion

I know...what I was saying is that it is a bunch of ********* if that they think that....like they are ignorant for thinking such a thing. Sorry, I guess I should have clarified!

    The Circumcision Discussion

First of all, the men "waiting in line in Africa" to get circ'ed so they won't "get HIV" are ignorant if they think that getting circ'ed is going to prevent HIV. That is a bunch of horsesh*t!!! Just because you are ciecumcised doesn't mean you can go around having sex with whomever you want and you won't get HIV. You have to BE SAFE and you PROBABLY won't get HIV. Plenty of circumcised men have HIV....there are thousands, hundreds of thousands of men in the US where circ is "popular" who have HIV. I work with HIV+ people...and I guarantee most if not all of them are circumcised. And this statement:"Also, I wonder if the vehemently anti-circ people are the same group who tend to be anti-vaccine?" No, I AM vehemently against circumcision....and am also vehemently PRO-vaccine!!!!!

    Lesbian L and D nurse

How is that any different that male OB's? It isn't! I would not have cared one bit if a nurse was a lesbian when I was giving birth....all I cared about was being taken care of during my labor and delivery!

    The Circumcision Discussion

That is quite beautifully said! Thank you so much for your thoughts!
