i am more liberal with time for peeing and our ortho usually writes for a straight cath if the bladder scanner shows more than 600. 2400 is not a lot of fluid after a joint surgery.

i have had a couple of patients have flushing, palpitations and anxiety attack symptoms after pushing hydralazine. i don't love it. i prefer nitro paste.

i have seen two codes. first one, i was orienting as a new nurse and it was not my patient. i got out of the way and watched the process. 2nd one was not my patient. i stayed in the room and watched the process and grabbed things that were needed....

we call them modified codes. everyone has a right to their wishes for resuscitation but i find it difficult to remember, especially with three or four patients, all with different modifications.

i think night shift either suits you or it doesn't. i have never been a morning person or an early riser. i hated getting up for early clinicals. now that i work nights, it works well for me but i do miss seeing my family as much.

1:6 with a secretary and aid, we are post surg, not just ortho.

it depends on the state/province and each facility's policy.

post surgical, night shift. rarely, a discharge, always an admit or 2. this is why i love nights. :)

standby - 4 bucks per hour

i would rather have the first admit and get it done early than have one later in the shift. it gives me more time to make sure i did not miss anything.

i think this is a good lesson. always check orders before doing dressing changes or staple removal.

i am so busy on nights, i would not dream of sleeping. patients sleep at night, ha!

i would take a per diem position as an RN over a full time CNA position any day.

along with everything else that has been said, it feels good to the patient.

lots of pain, blood transfusions, drsg changes, removal of hemovacs, stryker drain reinfusion, making sure patients are peeing, straigh caths, post surg puking, orthostatic hypotension post surg, fall risks, 2 people to get people up.

lots of people bog down the er for various reasons, not just seekers.
