  1. Pet health cert.

My dog had flown with me on almost every airline in the US and no one has yet to ask for any type of certificate or even a shot record. Placed like Hawaii and the Virgin islands have strict quarantine policies...but you'll be ok as long as you are in...
  2. I got an offer I couldn't refuse! How not to mess this up!

Make sure that is in writing too! (the non-floating part) Also, make sure to get guaranteed hours also!
  3. Car Free Travel Sites

Ask your company where they can house you so that you would not have to have a car. AYA isn't the only agency around. I would highly suggest you shop around. If the agency knows upfront that you aren't driving, they will try to house you closer to th...
  4. ICU RN

Do some per diem or PRN jobs around town. That way you will get the feel of it. You get bare orientation, maybe one shift, and then you are on your own. I've been lucky enough to not have any experiences of "being thrown to the wolves", but have hear...
  5. I got an offer I couldn't refuse! How not to mess this up!

The stipend seems like a high amount, are you sure it's not $1050 every 2 weeks? Please make sure you get that in writing. The pay package itself seems to add up, the stipendsounds a bit fishy to me. I've seen several PICU positions that are offerin...
  6. Titers Paid By Traveler?

Do you have a home hospital or one where you worked staff previously? If so, check their occupational health dept...they may have records of your titers if blood was drawn when you first started.
  7. Really California? A CA BON vent

I didn't have any problems getting my CA license and did get a hard copy upon renewal this year. It clearly says on the app to send in transcripts from all college course work, so to me that would be your fault. You have to read these apps over and o...
  8. Books for CCRN exam

Yep..I browsed through the Kaplan CCRN book a little. The questions were harder in the books that on the exam!
  9. Books for CCRN exam

    Pass CCRN! helped for me!
  10. Travel nursing with children

I don't have any children, but by your post, I don't think it would be such a good idea to go alone with your daughter. This world is getting crazier by the day. You would either have to pay for child care or leave her in the hands of strangers. Do ...
  11. Alta Bates in Oakland CA

Hi! Just finished an assignment there in May. All the travelers worked 8's while the staff worked 12's. The staff is supposed to be converting to 12 hr shifts, but they were still fighting it when I left. I worked days and I was never floated mid shi...
  12. Travel in Las Vegas?

I've NEVER heard any good reviews from travelers regarding Vegas. Coming from a state like Washington, I'm 90% sure you would be miserable there. Take Ned's advice. CA hospitals usually follow state laws regarding ratios and are better staffed.
  13. verbal contract with American Mobile Nursing

The exact thing happened to me...I was told I accepted a verbal contract with Kaiser through AMN just because the recruiter discussed pay and location with me. I was told it was a verbal contract and I could not back out...if I did, I would be banned...
  14. Nursing in Saudi Arabia

I would be afraid to go to those parts of the world right now. Had a former army nurse tell me somethings about the different culture there for women...you had to be fully clothed and cover all of your face except your eyes.
  15. Finding own housing in NYC

Tell your recruiter you will go only if you can get an apartment. Fastaff houses some of the travelers in apartments. Call travel and housing and ask them when an apartment will be available. I stayed in my apartment for 4 months...right off the huds...
  16. Help! The old bait and switch

Most likely it won't get any better. Sorry for what you are going through! Any chance you are with American mobile ?? This sounds like one of their tactics. Your contract has not been signed, your license hasn't been processed. I would try to look fo...
  17. Getting a California License

Just a bit of info http://healthcaretraveler.modernmedicine.com/healthcare-traveler/news/thousands-nurses-wait-california-clear-backlogged-licensure-applications
  18. The staff still works 12 hr shifts...all of the travelers are 8 hrs.
  19. Getting a California License

I wonder what has been the hold up lately?? I sent in fingerprint cards and received my license in about 6-8 weeks. A girl I know had to have here reviewed for an old felony and hers only took a week liner. She did fingerprint cards also!
  20. Hospitals in CA have strict patient/nurse ratios...having more than 2 pts at a time should never happen! Also, most if not all Sutter facilities are going to 8 hr shifts only, including travelers.
  21. Traveling to St Thomas, VI

What agency did you use? Let us know how it goes!
  22. How long have you been a nurse? Just familiarize yourself with the basic rhythms....v fib, v tach,a systole, a fib, a flutter, SVT, heart blocks....possibly what interventions you would perform for each...you will do fine!
  23. Travel Nurse, Checklist for getting started

I can understand your position...but most agencies, especially the bigger ones are no longer accepting faxes of documents. You have to upload them yourself to their portals on your own. I guess they are cutting down on actual paper wastage.
  24. Travel Nurse, Checklist for getting started

I worried about the quality, but them I sent the files to myself via email and downloaded them and printed them. I could not tell a difference between the original and the copy. But to each it's own!
  25. Travel Nurse, Checklist for getting started

There are several smart phone apps that will turn simple pictures of your documents into PDFs for easy uploads and emailing. I use genius scan.
