Should I go back tomorrow morning or not??!

Hi fellow Clevelander!Akroner !Im sorry you had such a rough day.I think you need the proper orientation to do safe nursing care.Ive been through the same situations at numerous facilities.I felt I wasnt practicing safely in that environment and certainly not in a timely manner.I mean how can you do a safe ,timely med pass if you dont know the patients,no aids or nurses to guide you?Ive been there ,done that.I went into another area of practice instead of ltc.I love it.There are group homes, homecare ,Doctors offices and other areas you might find less careless.Try them.Im sure youll find your niche. You dont want to injure someone or lose your license.!Good luck! Keep us posted:o

    Medication Aids??

Its not rocket science but theres more involved to a medication pass than that.I guess im just overly careful about the things Ive learned in nursing school about medication administration.Such as triple checks ,five rights and so on,it is more complicated thanjust counting them out of a bottle and passing them out.I wish in my mind I thought about a med pass as just a menial task.Out of all the things I do as a nurse I take my med pass very seriously. One wrong mistake could kill someone.:uhoh21:

    Advice PLEASE - Considering Nursing @ 39

Im an LPN and at44 am considering going back for my RN,I too had reservations because of my age.But think about it,you could be working for another 25 years.Ya know what I mean?I say go for it.you will not be sorry. There is such a wide variety of nursing areas you could work. And as you do get older and less physical, you could still do homecare.

    Why are nurses such back-stabbers?

What have other nurses done that have freaked you out?

I too keep it a secret, just sit by and observe, until I notice thier mistakes then I ll nicely question it.We are patient advocates.

What have other nurses done that have freaked you out?

That is so sad .People need to locate thier policy manual regarding these situations.(prior to being in that situation of course)

    LPNs NOT Medicating??

    You Know You're an Old(er) Nurse If . . .

    LPNs NOT Medicating??

Im an LPN and I take pride in my strong assessment skills!I dont know why youd think LPNs do not assess. Its part of the nursing process. As for LPNs not passing medications,we needed to pass the NAPNES/OOPNES to be allowed to pass medications. And a separate IV course to work with the IVs.

Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?

Wow Montgomery, you sure do a lot.Back in the day when I was an aide I did treatments foley insertions ect.But then you had to be an LPN to do those things. Is that legal for you to be doing those things? You sound like you would make an excellent nurse.Dont give up cause of the math, maybe you could join astudy group for math. And shame on ythe nurse you work with. There is always something to do.
  24. allantiques4me

The nursing process is driving me crazy!

Wow,24000 sounds like a lot of money. There are a lot of scholarships out there ,you just need to search.I went to nursing school all expenses paid.Sometimes you could work as an aid and the facility will pay your expenses for school.Check that situation out,Also you will gain a lot of hands on that youll need for clinicals and be more comfortable.

LPN's Who Sign Off Med Passes But Dont Give Meds

I cant believe how dangerous this could be!!I mean persons on BP meds( could stroke out)persons on antiseizure meds labs would be off, then the DR.would change the order, maybe causing a dangerous unsafe theraputic level when they would get thier meds as they should. How terribly sad!!And so,so dangerous!!
