  1. Hope that clinical hours will be on weekends. This way I should be able to handle it. thanks for the information.
  2. thanks, very helpful to learn about chamberlin. i will check that.
  3. Though not too much hope, I sitll post here, maybe I can get some help from here. I work full-time. The work is long hours and a lot of travel. So though I am already admitted to a local evening RN program, I'm afraid I cannot go because the clincals start 4. Besides, I'm thinking getting a job in an accounting firm, I ca make more money and gain better experience in the accounting career. I would be so much interested in Excelsior program. However, I do not have any health-care experience. Maybe I'll take a CNA class in the Summer. That's all. I finished A&PI,II, CHmiesty I,II, English I.II, Microbiology, Sociology, psychology, and have a bunch of Math classes. Is it possible I can get into Excelsior? or some RN or LPN program that are distance-learning based, or only need short-time concentrated clincal training? Anybody has any information? Please help.
  4. Hello Everyone: I applied for an RN program, and was accepted last year, but didn't go at that time due to family reasons. Now I'm accepted by a private LPN school, tuition is 11K. It is a 12 month evening program. I can keep my day time work, so the financial stress will be less. I'm just worried about if I would be able to get a job easily after graduate. I don't mind doing weekend/evening jobs. I am thinking if I could not find a job right after, then my 11K tuition will be gone, and the time wasted too. But if I could find a job easily, I will be happy to go. The school said the job market is good, but I do not trust words from them though. Do anybody who has any idea about job market for new LPN graduate? I live in Northern New Jersey, very close to New York City. I appreciate any reply and many thanks.
  5. thanks for encourgement. I believe it could be done. I just need to concentrate on studying.
  6. in some way, these people are actually cheating. i'm not surprised though... it's a good thing to see government agencies have taken actions and say no to these people.
  7. Just wondering, how much a LPN school teaches compared to what an RN school teaches? just like a previous thread said "80 percent"? (only nursing classes, I am not considering any general education courses). I'm asking since I'm thinking LPN-RN route instead of Rn route. I want to have some idea about if a LPN school will prepare me very well for LPN-RN. My friend told me in her RN class, a LPN fails the program, and my friend thinks one can learn very little in an LPN program.
  8. I'm looking at one LPN program. It's 12-month, M-F, 6-10. I hope I can keep my full-time day job this way. I finish almost all-prereqs for Rn program, including A&PI, II, Chmiesty I, II, Micribiology, ENG, SOC, PSY, etc. Since Rn program I apply for will be two years anyway, starting in Sept. If I go to this LPN program starting in March, then apply LPN-RN, it takes together two years to get RN. Just curious anybody go through program like this? It is very intense? Is it possible to keep a full-time job at the same time?
  9. It looks like it is so much harder to get into an LPN school in Canada. Long waiting list, tough requirement. Though tuition is much cheaper, but time is valuable too.
  10. I'm temporarily in US for another 1 to 2 years. Around here there are plenty of 12-month accrediated LPN schools. They are very expensive though, around USD12,000. I'm thinking taking it. When I go back to Canada, would I be able to work as an LPN in any province? I know Ontario needs 2-year training, so I wouldn't be eligible to work as LPN there. But how about other provinces? like British Columbia.
  11. So about one and a half month wait time! Thanks for the information.
  12. In the school I'm going to (next year), the last nursing class is in Summer I, finishes around June 15th, in New Jersey. So when would I expect to be able to take the board? I understand I need to wait till the school send the transcripts, etc to the BON. So would I be able to sit for NCLEX-RN before the end of July?
  13. The idea of clinical bag is very helpful. I think I'm going to get one for myself and get it ready before I sleep. So that means about half an hour early arrive on the spot. Thanks.
  14. For those who have started clinicals already, how early do you have to come to the site? Say your clinical starts at 7, do you need just to come a couple of minutes early? or do you need to come, like one hour early to set up? Is it OK to be late sometime? From my experience of taking pre-reqs at a local community college, there are always students who are late, and there seems to be no problem at all. Not sure about the actual nursing school. I'm asking since I'm starting nursing school next fall. Already got accepted :biggringi! It's an evening program, clinical starts 4pm. I'm wondering whether it is OK to leave work at 3:30.
  15. I've been accepted by mountainside hospital school of nursing evening program starting fall 2007. I'm pretty excited. I'll have all my non-nursing classes done by that time. I have a concern. I have a full-time office job. I do want to keep my job during the school. Is it possible for people to work without cutting hours and still be able to go through? Anybody has experience with the school? How is the nursing program like? I'd like to hear from you. I heard they have very good reputation and good clincals. Howerver, I'm very concerned about the possibility of the full-time working. thanks
  16. rainer1707, thanks for the encouragement! hope everything falls in the way. browneyedgirl71, hope you best! if you were doing a/p before, no matter how bad nursing market is, i am sure you made a wise decision and your job prospect after nursing school is definitely better than a/p. jenni82104, i heard the other way. it is to the benefits of the nurse union to argue there is a nursing shortage, no matter it is real or fake. in this way, they will be able to argue for pay increase, better work conditions, etc., to improve the attraction and to retain nurses in the field.
  17. Congratulations on passing the board!
  18. Many reasons I want to become a nurse. My childhood dream was to work in the healthcare filed taking care of patients. Somehow I ended up in accounting. Now I work for a small company. As you all know, accounting is boring, face the computer all day long, many tiny things to handle, with small money, I make 40K right now. The ceiling I predict is 60k if I keep in the accounting field. In the beginning I hate this job so much, now I'm getting used to it. Two bosses are extra nice to me. This is one reason I hate quiiting my job. There is another very personal reason. I'm a shy person, I'm 33 now. Not married, no kids. I love to have my own kids and I'm really worried now. My bodyfriend won't commit. He is making big money, maybe he doesn't think my future is good. I think very possible we'll end up breaking up. It's hard for me to meet new people in my life. I think going to nursing may change my life, meet more new people, change my way of living, with a more respected profession, I might be able to have my own family in the future.
  19. I remember 5 years ago, job statistics say IT was so good, it is predicted Americans still need xxx thousands of computer programmers, just within one year, things got changed. I'm now skeptical about these job outlooks.
  20. I'm a career switcher. Nursing school starts within three weeks. My mind suddenly gets a 180 degrees turn. Now I'm getting scared about nursing future and hate to quit my job so much. I remember five years ago IT was so hot, that many people jumped into it from other fields, starting from 2001, with massive layoffs and job outsourcing, IT new graduates had great difficulty landing a job, even many people who already had been working lost their jobs and had to look for other alternatives. Till today, the job market is still bad. I'm just scared now I'm going to be like some people in the IT bubble, jump right into the bubble, nursing is now hot. When I graduate from nursing school in two years, the bubble bursts and I would find myself nowhere to go with two years' investments completely lost. I guess basically my worry is, will there still be a nursing shortage two years later? Yes, population is getting older, but according to statistics, with the influx of immigrants, who are generally young, the average age of population actually goes down. And jobs markets is good now, lots of nurses reach retirement age, but with so many people changing career to nursing fields, with more and more accelerated programs educate fast-tracked nurses, and with so many foreign nurses come to this country, will the shortage last long? This forum has most people who have been working in nursing field for a long time and know the best about nursing. Maybe any of you can give me some suggestions or confidence, cool my worries. I could not even sleep for days. Any ideas is appreciated.
  21. For those who work in the US hospital under TN visa, How hard is it to find a hospital willing to hire under TN? Is it easy to convert to GreenCard? I know lots of hospitals are not willing to sponsor foreign nurses, wondering how about TN visa needers.
  22. Are hospitals in the upper NY willing to hire Canadian nurses on TN?
