  1. I need to know if there is a law about non smoking personnel having to supervise residents on their smoke breaks. This is becoming an issue at our facility and if we knew if there IS a law or ISN'T, it would help a great deal. If you find it, please let me know where. Thanks!

after many years of fighting to get to this point... i made it. so many stops along the way in the form of family deaths, financial woes, children growing up, grandchildren being born..... and today..... i can call myself a registered nurse! thank you god, thank you family, and thank you allnurses......
  3. RN in LTC: Love: My patients and caring for them. Hate: The massive med pass that as soon as you finish morning, you have to begin noon....

    I need a new job!!!

I am a new RN grad, and have been searching diligently for a new job. I have a current job, 40 min drive away and it isn't the best. Lots of "issues" and I feel my license is in danger. However, in the area I live in, the RN jobs are few and far between, and what is offered, they are asking for at least a year experience. Husband says we're "too old" to start over by moving somewhere else, but put in terms we can all understand,he won't leave his Mom. Ok, I guess I understand. She is a good lady, but... We have 2 teenage daughters still at home, and a house we're paying for. I have jobs sent to my email daily from different states, and even here in Indiana (but the drive is about 50 minutes to an hour away), but DH says, "You just want to work farther and farther away!" It's not that, I just thought that I'd be able to find a decent job nearby after graduation.... heck! I can't even get an interview! And really... my Mr is no help. I was trying to joke a couple of weeks ago and told him we should sell the house and buy an RV and go on the road... he blew up at me, accusing me of "feeling tied down, and f I felt tied down that I could leave and him and the girls would stay here...." "That no matter what, I'm never happy..." and blah, blah, blah..... Literally yelling at me...so now I don't speak about my dreams or what I want to accomplish as a nurse. Obviously, I know better now. Does anyone have ANY ideas that I can use, as a new grad, to find job? Or suggestions as to what to do to obtain a decent job nearby my home? Maybe that would cause less stress in the homestead.

    What to do about pay?

First of all, I still haven't been told what my RN pay is going to be. I argued to get brought up to $22.72, and I have an email saying that would be the rate, but now... the DON that emailed me.... quit. Are they still obligated to give me my 22.72/hr? or am I going to be bumped back down to 21/hr like they wanted to? Is my email valid? I've gotta get outta there.

    What to do about pay?

\Well, my update is that I emailed the "present" boss a few days ago, and STILL no response! I get paid Tuesday, so I'm almost 100% positive that I'm getting the lowest wage..... I'll let you know. PS: Thanks Sharrie.

    Thanks Idon'tknowbetter.... :)
  9. Definitely kept "some" books. Tossed notes, cept a project report that an instructor wrote a very nice comment on... Memory things? I kept. I have a "memory box" for all my doo-dads from nursing school. Just a small tote, but one that maybe my daughter or her children can go thru someday.....

    What to do about pay?

The email I am referring to is FROM my old DON that just quit. He had promised my pay to be at least $1.72 MORE than what the company had changed and began to pay new RNs. However, upon hire, I was told my pay would be $2 MORE than what the company offered when it all came to a head. Example: Told I would start at 26, price went down to 24, old DON sent an email to me saying he could only get company to go up to 25.72. Meanwhile, brand new RN with less experience started at 28.

    Correctional Medical Associates

Good. Then, I offer no opinion on the other. :)

    What to do about pay?

I am angry about the principal of it. I have 8 years experience on the other nurse, yet he is being paid more than I? And if I EVER get an answer from management... it may not be a mere $1.72, as some of you are stating.. it may be a full $4 and some odd change if they do not honor the email from my old boss. THAT pi**es me off! And yes, I do plan to leave, due to other circumstances making my employment there unsafe.... but that has nothing to do with equal pay for equal work.

    Failed Lab today...

Shoot! I'm a RN and still have trouble starting an IV! LOL! And as far as drawing blood? Haha! Need serious practice there... don't worry... you'll get it! :)

Correctional Medical Services? If it's the same company... run.... don't walk... RUN ..... and stay as far away from them as humanly possible.

    Wrist BP vs. Arm BP

I tend to agree. Although for just a regular BP check, providing the patient isn't "feeling funny" or "acting different", I do use the wrist cuff. But ANYTHING out of the ordinary, and I use a manual. Definitely.

    What to do about pay?

1rockstar.... I appreciate what you're saying, and plan on doing just that. But the ex military isn't the boss... the guy making more money is. We both have the exact same degree, and he graduated (RN) 6 months before I did. I've been a nurse (LPN) 8 years longer than he has. That's it. We do the same job, the same place, just different days. But yet, there is a (probable) $4/hr difference in pay. Thank you to everyone for your opinions. I do not believe they will honor the email. I do believe I'm screwed. Am in the process of calling the EEOC for advice. All I'm asking for is equal pay.

Hired by a male. Ex- military. Apparently was bragging about being paid RN wages even BEFORE his NCLEX! Whether that is true or not, I have no clue....

Should I tell my manager I applied at another facility?

You are awesome.... thank you. :redbeathe

Should I tell my manager I applied at another facility?

Wow. I had no idea. I'm doing a current job search, and my boss and I at my job previous to this one were not on wonderful terms. Although I left by going PRN,and then was never called, so consequently I was taken off the schedule.... I don't trust what she would say, so I think I will also use that they may NOT contact that employer. I've always put that they can, because I thought it was pretty much a "have to" for any kind of good job...
