Boyfriend wants me to stay away

Hi kimandthekinks! Yeah, momma didn't raise me to just lay down and take it He loves that I am a nurse (now NP), he has always respected it so much, which is why now I am like well? this is part of the territory. I have talked to him and explained why I was hurt when he didn't want to see me (I did NOT go to his house, and I DID respect his decision to stay away as one poster wrongfully believed and accused me of being a walking red flag). I think he understands why I was hurt and that he may be overreacting (if I gave away his job, it would make nurses go OH I KNOW THE TYPE...best and worst patients) but now I am waiting for him to make a move. Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. This is couple goals. True partners.

Boyfriend wants me to stay away

Hi gcupid! Def no trust issue, I know he really does love me and I 100% trust him to tell me if something else was going on. I think that's where I am at now, my eyes are open and waiting for him to make a move to show support in another way if he doesn't want to see me. Sort of like a long distance relationship- you still have to do things to make each other feel present and loved if you are not going to physically be in each other's company. Thank you for your input.

Boyfriend wants me to stay away

Thank you so much Wuzzie. This is exactly how I am feeling. What I would GIVE to even be under the same roof as one of my loved ones right now. Thank God I have great coworkers. Any ideas how to tell the bf he needs to step it up? Contrary to popular belief, I am not needy and hate to ask for things--but I am willing to, to let him know what I need from him during this time to feel loved.

Help! Advanced patho is kicking my you know what!

Hi Gr8fulRN! When I took advanced patho, I found that I did better when I wasn't memorizing, rather working through things. Make sense of the pathways, the body maintains homeostasis rather artistically and eventually makes sense! I implemented this method to students while working as a tutor, and it seemed to be helpful for them as well. Instead of Quizlet, maybe grab a whiteboard or blank paper and write out pathways. I like to use the RAAS mechanism as an example (sorry if you haven't made it to this point yet). Start with a picture of poor renal perfusion, and an arrow leading to the release of renin from the kidneys and angiotensinogen from the liver, which then combines and becomes angiotensin 1, once ACE is released by the lungs, angiotensin 1 becomes angiotensin 2 and so on and so forth. This is also a helpful way to set you up for pharmacology, when you will learn how medications act on these pathways to create outcomes. In my previous example, ACE-inhibitors are used to block the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2, preventing the vasoconstriction of arteries and sodium retention. Good luck.
  6. Our unit documents from tele monitors. Not only the situation you explained, but PACs or PVCs may not get conducted all the way down the arm into the finger, which leads to false low readings from a pulse ox! Best.

    Pregnant new grad

I would absolutely let your new manager know about your pregnancy. CONGRATS! Though I did not do it, I think new grad to ICU is manageable. As a new grad, you are very malleable. It is all about your preceptors and how well they are able to teach, as well as how well you are able to learn! 6 months sounds like plenty of time, and you are NEVER alone in the ICU. Good luck. I hope you can still be brought on despite leaving for a bit in September!

    I quit

Luckily I fell into my niche. Would you consider an Urgent Care? They are also busy right now and looking for help. And I believe the hours are flexible as a RN! I have never worked in one but some friends did. Good luck and keep us posted.

Boyfriend wants me to stay away

Let me break it down, because this seems to be confusing to some... I drive to his house. I sit in my car. He stands 6 feet away. We talk. I leave. No touching. No CDC guideline against this. I do not live anywhere that there is currently a lockdown or shelter in place. He refuses this because I am a nurse. This upsets me. I look to other nurses to see if their significant others are acting similar. Yet, somewhere in all of this I become disrespectful and unreasonable, and it is insinuated that I have never experienced hardship. Interesting. I very much appreciate most of the responses I have received that have been thoughtful and not coming for my character.

You don't know me and what I have been through. If you have no insight other than bashing my character and maturity I will kindly invite you to get off my thread, as this is no place for you.

I also completely understand the want of social distancing, just the extent of it seems a bit much here. We still communicate texting, phone calls, FaceTime, I don't think he has distanced himself. I trust him very much to give it to me straight. But none of the thoughtful gestures. And I am not that type of girlfriend to need these things or ask for them, but they certainly would be nice at a time like this.

Thank you ThePrincessBride. It seems like you have similar expectations of your men that I do. I am happy you found someone who supports you, even when times are hard. Be well.

Boyfriend wants me to stay away

Exactly. His terror of getting sick + potentially marrying a nurse = mixed bag. Thank you for your reply Serhilda. Be well. Hi JadedCPN, We have been together for just over a year!

I am a millennial, obviously we are FaceTiming...wondering what I am missing here thinking that FaceTiming and seeing each other in person (again, while following social distancing etiquette) is the same thing? Sure, these can help ease the pain of not seeing each other, but to me they are not the same.
