  1. I'll try to make this story short, so I helped my gf get her CNA she started working at the richest nursing home in my state. Come to find out shes always talking about this one CNA that keeps neglecting and verbally abusing the residents. I helped her report the abuse to HR. Come to find out they did talk to the abuser and the abuser is also close with their scheduler... Lots of my gf's coworkers would complain about the same thing, the abuser keeps neglecting and verbally abusing residents. My gf would tell them to report her but the new CNAs are too scared to make a report. Time goes on and I keep hearing stories of her still repeating the abuse. Also ever since then my gf said management keeps trying to watch her and they eventually fired her today for no apparent reason. In her group text for scheduling she made a comment about the abuser should be getting fired and not her and that this will be reported to the state for the facility letting the abuser continue to work there. -I already called the adult abuse hotline and reported the abuser. -I feel like I need to file a complaint against the facility and make a call to the ombudsman. I learned in Nursing school that we are to report any type of abuse right away and we are supposed to be patient advocates. However after talking to some of my coworkers some of them said it might be a losing battle because this place is very very rich. I need your opinions what do you guys think before I make the complaints soon. -what type of action will they take? -since this place is very rich, do they have power to jeopardize my license?

    That is called extended family home and currently doing that right now. I am getting a client soon paying 10k/month tax free. Once I get mine I am going PRN and going back to finish my RN stress free without working full time. I will have help from my gf as well.

    if they keep doing it, write them up. Get them out of there, no use in lazy people. They have tons of aides they can hire. It's a high turn over job. Get the bad eggs out of there and get the good ones in. No reason going into work stressed all the time. I had the same problem as you a few times and I just kept writing them up and eventually other people complained about that person until they were fired. Because I stopped tolerating that laziness. Dealing with an aide who wont work with you is very frustrating, especially is they put your patients at risk.

    Take a shaker bottle with you and replace those energy drinks with "amino energy" powder and water This gives electrolytes, caffeine, Bcaa's and the best part is its 0 calorie. peanut butter banana cliff bars are my go to snack along with quest bars. the caffeine keeps you awake and alert, electrolytes for functioning, bcaa's for muscle support, 0 calories to keep you slim Get "amino energy" off amazon. you can find it at walmart too.

    I have the right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression. And yes I do have a humble brag vibe online but I dont do that in real life at work I am humble, professional, and quiet. And yes I do realize the patients may exhibit those behaviors. People did bring up that having the best equipment around is the best policy but like you said we may not have the staff or equipment to back you up. Being strong and fit as nurses should be as an example to your patients and will help you when short staffed or no equipment. No one ever said strength is a weakness. No one ever said being healthy and fit is bad for you either.
  6. With proper form and execution you should be performing weight training exercises such as squats & deadlifts. Instead of resting your spinal erector muscles you should be strengthening them. Powerlifting is one of the safest sports on the world. We emphasize using intraabdominal pressure in each of the lifts to maintain spine neutrality. Performing "The king of all exercises" aka the barbell back squat is a good indicator of overall health. You have to squat all the way down and stand back up while balancing the bar on your shoulders. You work all the stabilizer muscles like your back and abs whereas the leg press you are just pressing on a fixed track. Doing a well executed deadlift with a straight back is much better for you in the long run, it will prevent you from being in a wheelchair like some of our patients. With chronic non-use, this can lead to atrophy of the muscles and lead to increased injury for floor nurses. This excludes nurses who work in management.......jk In the overall picture you are strengthening your body whilst having a positive stress reliever also you look good.

    Tell that to all my coworkers, I'm sure they love some eye candy at work. Cant help it when I put 1000s of reps in the gym each month. After a 12-13 hour shift I dont just sit around on my *** at home complaining about work, I take my *** to the gym

    injuries occur because caregivers backs are weak and most lift with rounded backs. This thread is to show yes it is ok to weight train but with proper form. You SHOULD be weight training if you dont want to break your back before you retire. All this time is spent in school going for higher degrees/certifications. All that time in classes making your hipflexors and back tight, only to graduate then try to work the floor more only to hurt your back even more. I never ever see this topic come up but I see more nurses and nurse aides dropping out because of back pain and they are not even 40 yet!

    no offense taken, I did emphasize "with proper form and execution. All nurses dont have to be powerlifters but we should train like powerlifters. Also the fact that you emphasize the leg press showed you did not prioritize the squats and deadlifts. If you prioritized them you would do them with proper form as well. When performing these exercises you should be performing them with correct form and using intrabdominal pressure. I'm 30 years old and my back is fine because I emphasize proper form and bracing techniques, I dont go balls to the wall and train smart. My girlfriend is holding records too, females can train safely as well.

    been lifting for 7 years squats & deadlifts especially. No nagging injuries. I am 30 years old and feel great. I regularly compete and hold my state records. Got all my information on proper form from the bodybuilding.com forums. As nurses we can't just promote health, we must live it, we must be an example. WE HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE to know that with a sedentary lifestyle, your muscles will atrophy, leading to a greater risk of injury. I shouldn't have to hear all these nurses and nurse aides in their 20s complaining of back pain all the time. Stop lifting patients with a rounded back, go strengthen your back and do squats and deadlifts in the gym with weights to build muscle. Especially build the spinal erector muscles.

    30 residents is too much for any nurse especially with no med aide. U should find another job which isn't hard to do at all.

    I love this job

    Just finished my first 2 weeks of work as an LPN and I love it. Not trying to be cocky but I am a good looking young guys with abs and a jacked body with my biceps popping my sleeves on my scrubs and veins. I love this job because I get to do what I love and there's some gorgeous females working all around me flirting. This is awesome.

    Tell them how u feel be assertive butnot confrontational about it. If it doesnt resolve soon just start doing some interviews now. Tons of jobs out there.

    Fresh LPN just starting job, advice?

    I actually went to an RN program for 2 years and an lpn program for a year and a half (scammed from ITT tech and kaplan). So going to nursing school for the third time, u know what I mean? So i do better self study. And i moved back in with my parents for the start of nursing school but im planning to get back out next year after RN. So I dont have to pay anything. Will 40+ hrs a week deter me from school? Maybe, thats why i picked float pool. Thanks for the advice I hope to join the RNs some day
