    UAB PRN pay

Hey all! Just got a tentative offer for the VA in CVICU in Birmingham. I've been an ER nurse for two years and would like to keep up my ER skills. Interested in working PRN at UAB. Does anyone know the general pay for RNs with 2 years of experience and then the pay for PRN? Thanks in advance! (Also any tips on where to live close to UAB would be nice...I'm from out of state and know nothing and no one!)
  2. Hi all, I'm an ER RN, BSN with two years of experience in the ER (Level 3 with more medical critical care patients than trauma...although we can get some trauma). I have a 3.3 nursing GPA, and have all of my certs except for CEN which I'm working on right now. I've been in touch with a Navy recruiter and have sent in my paperwork for MEPS. Ive been doing a lot of research on day to day life as a nurse in the military and unfortunately there's not a lot about it. All of my friends are in the military but not on the medical side. Are there any Navy nurses out there that can give me the pros and cons? I want the real details. I understand that it won't be like my civilian job (just 36 hours a week), but I already put in 48/week there. I also understand I will have more officer duties and the needs of the Navy come before anything else. My main questions are, am I competitive to get in DA? do you like it? Would you do it again? Do the benefits outweigh the cons? Which bases are the best/worst? What's the worst thing about it? What leadership qualities would you look for in an officer? Can you still have a social life/dating life/work-life balance with family? What are deployments like and how long are they typically? As an ER nurse, how likely is deployment with an FST or is that mainly Corpsman? How long would I live on a ship? Thanks in advance!

    El Paso/Las Cruces area nurses

0Hey y'all! There is a possibility I could be moving to the El Paso, Las Cruces area and was wondering if any of you had advice on what hospitals to work at. I'm an Emergency Room nurse with 1.5 years experience. If any of you practicing in the area can tell me anything I would appreciate it! What's the typical hourly pay for both full timers and PRN? Which hospitals are the best as far as how they treat their nurses? Which ones are the worst? What is the patient population like? I'm also bilingual and the hospital I currently work at pays more if you translate, I know Spanish is a preferred language down there to be hired, do nurses who speak it typically get an incentive to translate?

  7. Hi guys, I had a patient come in a few weeks ago who had active TB. This patient had been diagnosed positive years ago and stopped taking the antibiotics so could have developed drug resistance. I had a positive skin test after exposure. Have not had the chest x Ray yet. Most of the nurses I work with are telling me not to worry about it, but I would like some input as to my next steps. Keep in mind I have only been a nurse for a few months so please be kind. I have tried to look up everything I can on TB but still need advice. I know at some facilities a positive skin test alone requires you to undergo INH. I honestly would like to do this prophylactically anyway. I have not had any active symptoms like night sweats, weight loss, or fever. I have been sneezing and feeling run down but I also have allergies. I live with my two 80 year old parents. Should I ask for a culture assay if the patient was drug resistant and get treated with those antibiotics? Or is just INH enough? How long does it take to show up on chest x rays if I have latent or active TB? Do my parents and boyfriend need to get a skin test? If I'm not coughing but have been sneezing could I be contagious to them? Thanks in advance

Any info on Indian Health Service?

Hi guys! I'm considering government nursing/military nursing. I've already done some research on the military front but I also was wondering if anyone can give me insight into the Indian Health Service. Are the jobs hard to come by? What qualifications would you recommend having? I'm specifically looking in the Arizona, New Mexico area because my cousin is Navajo and lives on the Res in Arizona. I would also be interested in working down towards Mexico in either state because I am also fluent in Spanish. I am an ED nurse, and by the time I start applying I will have a year to a year and a half of experience and be ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certified. I also hope to have my medical interpreter's license by that point as well . I just don't know if it takes months to process the application like the VA, so do y'all have any suggestions for when to start applying? Thanks in advance!
  9. Hey guys! I am a new grad nurse, I graduated in Dec 2016. My fiancee is a Sgt in the Army and I'm currently an ER nurse resident. After I fulfill my residency obligations, I was considering joining the Army. At that point I will have 1-2 years of experience, and I was wondering if there were any dual military couples out there to give advice. I am debating on Reserves or Active duty because I would like to be able to stay with him as much as possible and not get stationed apart. Is it relatively easy for dual military couples to be stationed together? I would be a 2nd LT going in, and he is enlisted. We would also have different MOS's since I would be MEDCOMM and he is FORCECOMM. Would the Reserves be a better option for me? I want to serve my country, but I also want to have a good marriage life especially since we will be just starting out our life together. EDTA: I understand that there will be sacrifices made by both of us. We have already been through deployment to Iraq together this past year while I was in school and dealt with a few TDYs and will be dealing with a PCS soon most likely.
