Mayo Clinic RN new graduate residency July 2019

It’s been 11 days since my interview but it feels like months already, lol! I honestly have a feeling I didn’t get it. The scenarios were really difficult and I wasn’t expecting that in a new grad interview. I guess we’ll see though! For the person who asked, the interview is in the SSB building. Just follow the signs and arrows located all around the campus and you’ll find it.

Mayo Clinic RN new graduate residency July 2019

Honestly, it was the most difficult interview Ive ever had! It was a general interview and you rank your preferences upon arrival, but she kind of caught me off guard because I put critical care as my number one and she told me I wasn’t eligible since I didn’t have preceptorship experience in ICU. So I had to re rank everything. They were very nice but I was SO nervous! They said we should hear the first or 2nd week of May, and that interviewed will be done by end of April. Let me know how your interviews went!!!!

Phoenix Children's Hospital PCT Orientation question

I'm in the same situation... did you ever find out the answer?
  4. Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone on here applied to the Mayo Student Externship for this coming summer in 2018 in Phoenix. I see threads for past programs but not one for this year. I had my interview on Friday 3/9 and am hoping it went well (those behavior questions are tough!). Waiting to hear back in the next 2 weeks about if I got in or not. Hoping theres some of you out there!! Thanks
  5. Background: I'm a BSN student starting my final year (blocks 3 and 4) in August. I will graduate May 2019. I absolutely love nursing and I was given a super great opportunity to be an extern in the ED of a very well known teaching hospital. I work 3 12s for 8 weeks with a dedicated preceptor. I have absolutely no medical experience prior to school. I started my externship last week and I am completely overwhelmed. I know that the ED is overwhelming in general but I feel discouraged for some reason? The nurses and techs are nice and helpful but I have a feeling they think I'm an idiot. They are shocked when I told them I hadn't done an IV or EKG or indwelling cath on a real person yet. Whenever a stroke code or ambulance comes in, they all jump in to help and I stand there feeling like an idiot. I've only had 2 shifts so far so I'm barely oriented to the unit (where certain supplies are, policies, procedures, names etc) but my preceptor has told me repeatedly "you need to be more assertive. You definitely want to me a good impression here" which made me even MORE nervous! Hah, I'm rambling now but does anyone have any advice/ opinions on how to do this without overstepping? FYI as externs we are not allowed to pass, hang or push meds in any form but we can do all tech work, assess, document, start IVs, draw blood etc. In my first 2 days, my preceptor has had me start 10+ IVs, caths, EKGs etc already. thanks a million!

Feeling stupid... feel free to give opinions!

Thank you guys so much for your insight and opinions! I have had a couple more shifts and I am definitely feeling more confident with the basics. I guess my anxiety is normal for any newbie, and I'm just glad to have the opportunity and didn't want to screw it up. Thanks again y'all!!

Mayo Clinic Student Extern 2018 in Phoenix

It's 8 weeks. You do get to state your preferences but the recruiter this year told me only one of the 34 spots was in the ED so it's very competitive.

I haven't heard either. Does someone want to take one for the team and call HR to ask when we should hear?

Mayo Clinic Student Extern 2018 in Phoenix

Maybe someone could call HR? I had called the person who scheduled our interviews like 10 days ago and she said we would know within 2 weeks of the interview. Its coming up on 3 weeks since mine. I don't want to annoy her and call again but?

Mayo Clinic Student Extern 2018 in Phoenix

Yes, alopas! Not easy at all. She told me there were 34 spots I believe but that hundreds and hundreds applied... so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. But that's obviously not working that well being that I check my email and mayo portal a million times. Anyways, Good luck!! Where do you go to school?

    Mayo Clinic Externship Phoenix

Hi guys! I know this is an older post but I wanted to check and see if anyone would tell me what their GPA/stats looked like that got into the summer externship? I just applied for this year but have a lower cumulative GPA, so I'd love to see whats possible. Thanks!!
  23. Yes, I think it gives you an extra point. I had a previous Bachelor's so I'm assuming that helped get me placed as well. I didn't even take the critical thinking questions as they were optional, so no, I don't think they use those scored to help place. I don't know how to calculate the chem score... sorry!
  24. Yes, they only calculate your GPA using the marked classes. I had a 3.45 and still got into my first pick to start this summer. Just do well on your HESI, have all your pre requisites done and hope for the best.

Maricopa comm college CEP Applicants fall 2017

I've heard (but never seen any official confirmation) that they do a points system- out of 10 points- if there are more applicants than spots. GPA is worth x amount, HESI scores are worth x amount and then having all pre reqs completed earns extra points as well as completed degrees. I also think it has to do with which schools you choose, but who knows. Hopefully there will be some deferrals and y'all will get a spot!! Fingers crossed.
