I'm not sure how the NCP works since I went direct accession, but when I was professionally recommended, that basically meant I was good to go. I just had to finish nursing school and pass the NCLEX and then I was "final selected" and commissioned.
Congrats!! Being pro rec'd is definitely good news!
Thanks! I figured it was good news, but I didn't wanna jump the gun on my celebration LOL
were u receiving a stipend while you were completing school? and did you receive a bonus? if so, how much was it and how did they disburse it to you? i know they tax it, but did they give u all at once or break it up?
I didn't receive a stipend while in school. I leave for ODS in 2 weeks, so I haven't received my bonus yet, so I do not know how long it takes to get it! Mine is $30,000. I think it is all at once, but not sure. I believe with the NCP your $10,000 bonus is divided up so you get $5000 right away and then the other $5000 after 6 months. But I could be wrong. I just remember my recruiter mentioning something about it when I was starting to apply for the NCP.
Sorry, I'm not much help!
How much longer do you have in school?
i JUST started a couple mths ago *sigh* it's an accelerated 16mth prgm tho so only 14 more mths to go! the past two months have already flown by for me so i'm sure the rest will do the same as well.
i hope u enjoy ODS school! i hear it's intense but GREAT! good luck!
and thanks again for responding!:)
No problem. Good luck in school! I did an accelerated 16 month program as well and it went sooo fast! After all that work the NCLEX was a piece of cake. You'll do great! :)

Hello,
How are you? I am a senior nursing student at Loyola University Chicago. I was reading your thread and i just wanted to know how school was going for you? I am also a NCP student and i just can't wait to start my career in the navy. I graduate this upcoming May but i can't even get excited because i have yet to find out where i will be stationed at (therefore i feel like i am still in the blind as far as my life is concerned). If you have any questions about NCP I could try to answer them for you. Nursing is challenging so i could just imagine the accelerated program. But on the good side, it does get easier. My sophmore year i was freaking out because in our nursing program you are not allowed to fail ANYTHING (I do not fail classes but it was the thought that was scary). But then junior year was way easier, you gain more confidence. Now i am 1 week away from finishing my first semester of my senior year and believe it or not, it was easy. Not because the material is easy, but because you have a strong foundation of information at this point. it's like everything just comes together. Hopefully next semester will be the same.
Talk to you soon!!!
